Two things the real man wants: danger and play. That’s why he wants woman as the most dangerous plaything.

A mans should be raised for war and a woman for the recreation of the warrior: everything is folly.—Nietzsche

Like almost everybody else on the planet, I was enchanted by "Rhiannon" when it came out. That unresolved toggling back and forth from relative minor to subdominant major (Am to F, if the song is in C, and I have no idea if it is) built up a lot of tension.

However, the idea was quickly picked up by just about everybody, so that chord pattern is now one of the most common in pop music. It's lost its power, and frankly it gets boring after a while. Like too many twelve-bar blues in one day.

When Fleetwood Mac decided to relocate to the USA, they wound up in Hollywood, the headquarters of the U.S. music industry. They were searching for a recording studio to work with, and someone recommended one to them. The head of the studio was ecstatic over the possibility of picking up a great band like FM, and he played some songs for them off of an album that he produced.

It was the "Buckingham Nicks" album, Stevie and Lindsay's first recording. The first version of "Landslide" is on it.

The members of Fleetwood Mac said, "I'm not sure you can create the sound we want so we'll keep looking. However, we'll be happy to pay you a commission if you can hook us up with those two kids. They have exactly what we want in the new Anglo-American Fleetwood Mac!"

    The rest is history.
