Hate the New Format

trying to figure it all out

I hate the new format. What's with the blank sky blue and flesh tone word balloons. So we know there's a dialog going on?

Along with Beer w/straw, I miss the Ban List. Since I have them on permanent Ignore - How else am I to now when the forum is safe from Tragical Surrealist's pointless presentations of woo or if the troll hunters have caught up with Aqueous Ass?

The smileys, much like the members on my ignore list are limited, vacuous and stupid-looking.

The 'Watch This Thread' option is pointless when one can just click on New Posts, and good old New Posts has been moved to the far right when it was so convenient on the far left.

And I don't have permission to view my own account!

I'm going to assume the moderation team has not improved and that it is fatal to contradict their narrow-minded opinions. (I'll never know if I am wrong)

I'm out of here. Good bye. Nice knowing (some of) you. Please unsubscribe me.

Arne - it isn't a "new format"... it's an entirely new forum. The problem was, the old vBulletin software had several major security flaws that their development team (the vBulletin team) were unable to resolve... so, in the interest of security, the forums moved.

This is not without teething issues. For the last two days, I myself was unable to view ANY Posts.

Give it time... or not... your choice.

Hello Arne

This is, quite literally, a new forum. It is a big move change and a big move, and it is not without its teething problems. Like Kitta, I was unable to post and at times, even view the forums on this account. At all. We just kept getting error messages. Then we were able to actually log in, but weren't able to look at any thread we had not started and we had lost all of our privileges. It's a teething problem. These things happen when you're moving over 12 years worth of forum over onto new software. Problems will arise. We just need to be patient while they sort out the kinks.

But they are working virtually non-stop on the kinks and trying to get it back so that it looks like the previous sciforums, with ban-list. Yes, they are working on getting that back up as well.

The alternative is our compromised security as the previous sciforums was being attacked virtually 24/7 by hackers and yes, our personal information and security were at risk. While you may not like the current format and feel strongly enough about it to leave, instead of having a bit of patience while they try and iron everything out and get it like we all want it to look, that is entirely up to you. Personally, I'd rather be hacker free and have some sense of security. And that is just me.

And I don't have permission to view my own account!

Right click on your name in your account then do what you want like putting in an avatar but don't worry when you upload it just upload it then close your account then the new avatrar should be there even if it says there's something wrong.

Aye. I haven't posted here in a while, but still lurk. This format sux! Doesn't even show post counts for users...

Why fix whats not broke?

I liked the old look, the old old look, before the last update. Was simple, easy to figure out.

These updates only seem to further complicate things.

Skaught , the old software had too many vulnerabilities

If it ever allows access beyond the first page, the "new posts" feature seems to be a more-inclusive or longer-lived display of that activity. The latter was so feeble on the old site that I had long since (a year or more before) stopped noticing if it was even still around.

I'm glad the indent tags still work. Many forums don't even provide / enable such a basic function.

Give it a chance, say a couple of weeks.
The problems will be sorted out. The site will settle down,
Hopefully this new site will have better tools to prevent the spamming that plagued the old one.

seems OK to me. I would like the edit function and the Latex functionality, which I assume will come in time. Now for something completely off topic. There were some thunderheads building here and my wife asked me if I thought it was going to rain and being something of a weather nut I confidently forcasted that they would not hit us and there would be no issue. About 15 minutes later I took about 5 or 6 hail stones to the noggin as I ran for cover. Life is funny....

Heh, heh. Just imagining the people here pulling their hair out if they were confined to the LBB straitjacket.

Yeah... like when you posted somethin in a webtv groop it took up to 20 minutes for it to show up... LOL.!!!

I got WevTv in 1998... an after i got it hooked up an saw the highway... i knew i was about to conect to the world wide web... awsome feelin.!!!

I bout mine at Sears for $250 an it broke after 1 mounth... i exchanged it an that one lasted 23 mounthes... but they had quit sellin 'em so i coudnt exchange it... but i had payed $10 for an extended warranty so they just gave me back $250... i then went to hhGregg an bout the sony plus webtv for $50 an used it for 12 years an i still have it :)

I lost forum access a while ago and it was obviously being tampered with so I decided to wait a while. I'm glad to see that the forum has been relocated to what is hopefully a more secure venue. I can't seem to figure out how to access my avatar and keep getting error messages so I'll come back in yet another while when things are hopefully more settled.

Lots of change happening in life presently. I don't much care what these things look like so long as the available functions are user-friendly and work. Good on the admin for looking out for our security.

I was having the same issues as you were scheherazade. I found that if you open each link in a new tab, it reduces the errors. So to upload your avatar, you open in new tab until you get to the window that tells you to select your picture from your pictures that you have saved. I still have the same issue and need to open new tabs all the time while they are sorting out the kinks.

Speaking of those old days, why the devil is it still showing [at least right now] on his profile and other places that MR is still banned, when the seven days are over and he's been removed from the "Banned Users" list? Seems like I even remember him showing-up on "Members Online" briefly yesterday or thereabouts, indicating that he had been able to login.

Prolly some sort of special punishment for real bad boys :(

Ah, No I don't think it is. If it still says that it's likely just down to how the tables for the ban list were ported from the previous forum iteration, I'm sure it will be worked out eventually, however I think Pagination is more of a priority.

Edit:
I would hazard after a brief investigation that previously outstanding Warnings that MR had on his account are what is effecting the "ban" not the moderators directly. When the points he accrued over time decay then it should "self-right" if an Administrator doesn't fix it in the meantime. (It might even explain why some members have had problems logging in)
