my guess, and its only that, is that the links are in sigs and bio and are related to a specific topic when in posts..
However a post to a specific link stricktly for that purpose to send someone somewhere to sign up for something (non-informational) i think are the ones that are deleted... and it seems that the mods are pretty leinient about this, and usually dont start deleting until there are multiple posts, unless its really obvious spam.

...most of us are pretty happy here, and if you check out the religion section you'll see we dont appreciate trying to be converted.

What's the chance that a moderator is a transient spammer? Pretty low, methinks.

One member asked for bass tabs. Captain gave him a link to a bass forum. Was removed.

Asguard carries a link to a board in his sig. It is a sign up message board. But that seems to be ok.

    Not fair.

So a moderator of say, a different science forum, is not allowed to put a link to his forum at this one?

He may have it in his signature or profile. He may not post it for the sole purpose of drawing members from this site, in a post or thread.

members will leave this site for things like eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom.

Happy members will return. Giving members a useful link, a link they asked for, makes members happy.

    Hence, they will come back.

This will be my last answer in this thread unless something important is brought up.

Spammers do not return. They leave one post and do not come back for the majority.

The members do not ask for this. The spammer brings it and leaves. Period.

It is not our wish to encourage this behavior.

wet1, if the sign-up link is in his signature that appear in every post he makes, isn't that the same as spamming in every post that he makes?

^but her doesn't post simply for the fact of smearing that link across the thread.
