It's a little deeper than that.......

What you are forgetting is that a candidate with cross-over appeal need not necessarily win outright those constituencies that typically vote for the other party; he needs only to not lose as badly as normal. Romney got 6% of the black vote, 27% of the Hispanic vote, 26% of the Asian vote, and 26% of those under 30. Despite that terrible showing among every demographic group except whites, he got 47% of the vote overall.

All Rand Paul (or any Republican candidate) needs to do is improve on those dismal numbers.

Speaking of minority outreach, did you ever see this parody from the eighties called Rappin' Ronnie, Reagan Campaign message to minority voters.

Ah, the good old days, when a Republican could "settle for just 2%" of the minority vote and still win in a landslide.

Why don't the republicans find their own black candidate?
Perhaps even a black woman candidate.

I'll throw you a bone.
Here's a candidate you could win with.

Rand Paul's toupee is indicative of self delusion, and poor judgement. These are qualities that will keep him very far away from the White House.

Indeed, his own words will condem him. The nation doesn't want to return to the days of seperate toilets for whites as Paul has endorsed.

He's Republican, so yes.

His candidacy will sink as soon as he has to answer questions about poverty, race, and actual specific taxes. He got his economic theory from Ayn Rand novels, also - that will be hard sell until the crash of '08 is in the past more.

Condoleeza Rice was a member of W's administration - there seems to be a gentleman's agreement that as long as those people never try to occupy public office in the US again, they will not have to face grand jury investigations or be subpoened to testify under oath about what they did. But she would be ill advised to push it - the current administration has had a few years to get things in better shape over at Justice.

Paul can only put so much make-up on his extremist background. He cannot wipe it clean no matter how hard he tries.

Obama can give them all a blanket pardon on leaving office can't he?
It wouldn't do his future earning prospects any harm.

I don't think Obama wants to do a Ford and go down in history as Ford II. Ford's pardon of Nixon didn't go over real well. I don't think Obama wants to do the same.

The Republicans aren't going to go down without a fight; note all of their attempts to disenfranchise the poor.

You have hit it on the head. However, both parties are invested in one thing: more power! American governemnt is no longer what it was meant to be, it is now about power.

Honestly, I don't want them accomplishing anything in congress, except making sure that I am a free citizen and that my freedom is protected.

Re: "Rand Paul Creates 50 State Network in Preparation for 2016 bid"

Just puked a little bit in my mouth.

As our former SciForums hot-head (CountZero -- who's currently a security analyst with the State Department; die-hard Republican and hater of all things Obama) said to me: "If Rand Paul or Ted Cruz get nominated, I'm voting for Hillary. End of discussion."

Know why? Those men would destroy our world order -- the one that was slavishly built by the Brits and handed to us at the end of WWII. This guy -- who hate Obama -- is currently on duty in Southeast Asia, negotiating base-transfers from Malaysia, Indonesia and even Vietnam (who want the US Navy stopping by as a port of call) because they hate China with a seething passion. Say what you want about the USA, but it's incredible how every time a baddy rises up in the neighborhood, they all ask for the USA rather than that nation.

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz will not get elected, and if they do, you can count on them handing the world stage to China.

I doubt that. The real reason is simpler: to indict them would mean to indict the whole government and let every dirty secret out in the open air. There's simply no mechanism for indicting Condi (who has like nothing on her hands compared to Wolfowitz, Card and Bolton; which says nothing for Bush and Cheney themselves) because such an indictment would need to include people from administrations from Bush 1 all the way to Obama. The kind of national security leaks that would ensue would be intolerable to the government, so they just avoid it altogether.

Plenty of Bush & Co. people are working their way back into government. You can expect to see Card and Bolton at the top of the heap again before long.

There are credible fears that she's a lesbian. Lifetime single; owns a house with another woman; has a line of credit with another woman.

And if by some miracle they should get elected, I am heading to the remote out back of Canada and burying my money in the ground - especially if Cruz should be elected. Cruz is a maniacal evil creature. I just cannot see trusting him with the nation's nukes much less the nation's finances. The guy is an amoral whacko. The mere thought sends shivers down my back. He thinks a debt default is a good thing. He would say and do anything to achieve power and there is something very disturbing about the man.

This P.J. O'Rourke quote seems appropriate: 'The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work, and then they get elected and prove it." Why would someone who believes government is the enemy seek the highest office in the land?

An openly lesbian President is unlikely, but not half as unlikely as someone who has talked about resurrecting Jim Crow.
It is hard to think of anything more toxic.
