This is something I've touched upon before :
The world is changing, and new platforms of expression are evolving.
How does this one, with its existing membership and following, remain viable?

The interesting and most redeeming factor of this forum, is that for the most part, the age dynamic is far older than most other fora I have experienced. The bonds between many of the posters are years old and provide a matrix of support and intelligent discussion that quickly loses the interest of the typical diarrhea-mouthed self-entitled generation. Some of the discussions, and even entire threads have been going on for multiple years and have voices from not only the US, but a greater international net (and it's philosophies/social contracts) than most forums. The moderators are a bit older, weathered and sometimes wise, able to take punches as well as give them without losing their shit, and tend to speak honestly with the masses and are human and not "supermod" type personalities. This place hasn't denigrated completely into a cesspool, though there are areas that don't add much to the greater good but the powers that be have pretty successfully peeled those types of discussions into separate subfora for the completely useless drivel. Those posters that do act inane, stupid, and super entitled do end up finding themselves either bored or banned with a few exceptions. I do fancy rebels, and I know they do get banned or otherwise shutdown for awhile, but thankfully they do persevere under new aliases quietly with a bit of an attitude adjustment, myself included.

Do I agree with all the mods and their behaviours? Hell no, but they are human and shouldn't be expected to be omniscient infallible deities with a full heart and a light (and forgiving) hand.

As for the posters; Smite em all I say, and let the survivors lick their wounds and live to fight another day. It's good for your heart and mind (and ego) to take a beating from time to time. It's how we improve ourselves.

You are right on the money in your perspective, I second your opinion.

It's not remaining viable per se. It has been changing its nature into something else - something else that may indeed be viable. Viable in regard to some purposes, and impotent in regard to some other purposes.

But eventually, many people do get tired of being a teenager. Some at the age of 20, some at 40, some at 60. Some, of course, never do.

Speaking only for myself, I simply do not have the free time to undertake such a responsibility. I prefer to do fewer things extremely well than to do more with less finesse.

I am also quite content with what little power I already wield.

If Sciforums wants to acheive a goal of higher standards an mor consistant moderation... it needs a leader who will enforce that goal an i jus dont see James R steppin up... but mayb the way thangs are is his gole... an in that case i say job well done :bravo:

A total free speech forum whare name callin is Ok woud be fine wit me... then i coud kick RandWolfs azz (j/k... hes my buddy) an make Bells cry... lol... wit-out gettin baned... but i dont thank thats gonna be implemented here as Sciforums... so ive spread the seed of civil moderation as bein in the best interest of everbody at Sciforums... an in spite of resistance... that seed will grow

Wit the mixed messages from mods (an others) about how civil moderation shoudnt necessarly be a priority... its obvous that som mods (an posters) ideas are jus to immature an short sighted to understand the benifits which woud come from moderation bein done wit-out snide remarks :itold:

I thank some mods see behavin shtty to people while performing ther mod duties is jus a perk of bein a mod an will fight tooth an nail to keep that perk... an ether way is oK wit me... but bein the nice guy i am... im jus thankin of others

cluelusshusbund, you have, since registering on this Forum (about 62-months ago) Posted an average of somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 Post per month - or twice a day.
Other Members, such as the Poster of Post #110 ^^above^^ has since registering (about than 7 months ago) Posted an average of somewhere in the neighborhood of 430 Posts per month - or over 14 Posts per day.

So, cluelusshusbund, being that I agree that Moderators on this Forum should have, as Stoniphi seemed to allude to in his Post #108 :
..."the free time to undertake such a responsibility", and the ability to : "do fewer things extremely well than to do more with less finesse".

Because of that, and also because, although possibly lost in the annals of history as to who actually first uttered the following sentiment ; Samuel Langhorne Clemens opined :
    - the ^^above^^ from : Mark Twain's Own Autobiography: The Chapters from the North American Review : http://www.twainquotes.com/Statistics.html

So...,for those reasons, cluelusshusbund, and in the interest of, "justice", I would have to ignore the "statistics", and would therefore prefer you as a Moderator, over someone with a seeming redundantly inflated Post count!
    Simply because Quality trumps Quantity!

The "justice", as it currently seems to be administered on this Forum, seems to more often than not, go against the reasoning of such great minds of History, as :
    - the ^^above quoted^^ from : http://thinkexist.com/quotes/voltaire/4.html

At any rate, considering all that I have witnessed on this Forum - I could and would offer full support for your appointment as a Moderator on this Forum!
