The X-15 rocket powered plane was created in the early 60's. This was at the time the fastest vehicle we created, really prototypes for rocket powered space travel. So it was under 20 years.

The vehicles where tested in the early 60's and no doubts prototypes continued, I don't have exact dates. There is clearly a technological gap between the two events. In 1952, we didn't have supersonic ships that could travel thousands and thousands of miles per hour.

    Now the chinese craft ...http://rt.com/news/supersonic-china...ction_types=og.likes&fb_ref=.UtUfUtFjovU.like

... yes really looks like it could be the type of craft that could be confused as a saucer. It's very slimline, smooth metal surface, aside from a slanting from the front forming a nose, there are aspects about the craft which strike similar to saucer craft. At a distance in the sky, I could see how someone might mistake it for a saucer UFO.

Reminds me of the Avebury UFO in which a couple of people set up an experiment, attached lights to a remote-controlled air craft and drove it in the night sky. Their experiment, to show how ''unreliable'' witnesses are, somewhat backfired because the public after all, reported a saucer, with lights, so they actually showed themselves capable of being reliable witnesses. (Totally unrelated to the OP) though. Just remembering a story.
