We travelled a lot this year; Paris was among our destination, the city of light as it was called. It was an enjoyable moment since it was the first time we went there. Not only, we discovered French culture, beautiful and famous monument but had also experienced French gastronomy, especially, Provencal ones, known as gourmet products, very delicious one. In 1973 I rode a motorcycle across Europe, from Germany to Spain via Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Monaco and Andorra. A couple of those countries don't exist anymore. I rode along the Mediterranean coast of France, so I didn't see Paris. But Nice was lovely, and since by then it was almost Fall, I was just as happy to be on a motorcycle in the southern latitudes. I noticed a slight difference in the dialect of French. The north was originally populated by the Franks, so you can hear the German influence on their speech, especially the gargled German R. But the Gauls lived in the south, so you hear the Celtic influence on their speech, especially the flapped R that is more common worldwide (but not in American English). The southerners also have a reputation for being a little more polite to foreigners than the Parisians. They were very patient with my modest French vocabulary and appreciated the fact that at least I was trying to speak their language. In those days the "Ugly American" stereotype was still rampant: "Hey, can't none of you Frogs/Krauts/Wops/Bohunks/Polacks talk American???"
French are not very clean , as I traveled with a rented car, I tried to stay for over night on German side were the accommodation was cleaner . I like to see as you mentioned monument and historical places which was great.
The Louver was fantastic, Versailles (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...P0q21ZcaDlZY5vb8TBGOrnQ&bvm=bv.57155469,d.aWM ) and the Eiffel Tower that I went to the 3rd level on. The people were always friendly to me by the way and my tour guide was French and she was very helpful about anything I asked about. I took a night cruise on the dinner boat that went up and then back down the Seine River and they had lights on the top so when they came to a old building with historical value they stopped then illuminated that building and told us about its history as we ate . Paris was a very interesting place and I need to return there to see allot more than I did for there's allot to see when there and a few days just isn't enough, 1 week at least would be better. Oh yes I went to the Moulin Rouge for a Cabaret show as well and that was very entertaining and suggest stopping by there if you ever go to Paris. Food was very Americanized that I ate.
I had the opportunity to travel in France few months ago, I enjoyed everything about the country, and maybe it was due to the place we visited too such as the Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art and the Colline Du Chateaux in Nice, the Eiffel tower and Notre Dame in Paris but what I enjoyed the most was French food, especially their chocolates. I don’t know if you have time to taste Belgian chocolates but Delices & Gourmandises is well-known and good brand for it. Men and women over 18 may receive payment for sexual services, but are not allowed to advertise their activities. On Wednesday, the French National Assembly has approved the bill criminalizing clients of prostitutes, 268 deputies voted for the bill, and 138 against it. By law, if the Senate approves it, those convicted of "buying sex services" will be subject to a fine ranging from 500 to 1,500 euros. The law also provides for measures of social and professional support to those engaged in prostitution. One thing I like about France is that you can eat in a small cafe, and they will serve excellent food. Sometimes you can stop at a small hotel, and the food served by the Madame will be brilliant. It isn't all about money there yet.
I was in Paris a year ago almost exactly, but it was just overnight on a secret mission, not much time for sightseeing, but I ate a delicious créme brule.
Europe has a problem with people-trafficking. The nature of prostitution has changed. A person paying for a prostitute is now quite likely to be paying for the use of someone's sexual slave. Will Hollande's law improve matters? Probably not. But what has it got to do with the "World Government"?
I've been there four times. My favorite country in Europe. The first time was in 1969, hitchhiking from Greece. That took me through rural areas in France. Lots of the roads were narrow and had trees planted on either side of them. There was always shade to sit under if no cars were coming by. One of the rides told me that Napoleon had them planted. Nice is nice but there is a damn cannon on a hill by the beach that goes off at noon. It's a three foot leap in the horizontal position if you are laying on the beach and aren't aware of it. Magnificent Paris. Go to a sidewalk cafe early in the morning and sit at a table close enough to two women so you can sip your coffee and listen to them talk. Music, pure music. Last time I went was in 2012 to see the Millau Viaduct but it was too early in spring and for three days it was foggy, or cloudy, and couldn't get a grand view. Guess I'll have to back again.
I've been trying to improve my cooking skill, lately....I would love to go just to experience the food.
