Who can I contact about having my account removed? I had attempted to do so years ago but was told by members of the forum that it wasn't possible (from how it was explained, it's a misguided policy to keep users around). As I no longer use my account I would like to remove it from the forum to reduce my digital footprint. Anyone who can help me out?

I'm unsure if your account can be deleted...just abandon your account, that's your best bet.

From a database integrity POV I see problems with deleting an account. They may be able to inactivate it. But it'd be easier for all concerned if you just abandoned it.

The policies of the forum in regards to account deletion wasn't due to trying to keep people around longer, it was actually due to when a to a mixture of continuity (Making conversations readable as multiple different members) and because at the time we had an outbreak of a certain type of account creating troll that would say a whole bunch of stuff, then claim to be remorseful and want their account deleted (But were really just wanting to delete their involvement in causing any site-wide reprisals.)

It might be possible for an Administrator to "Merge" all your old posts with the systems internal "Guest" account, so any of your posts would come up as "Guest", however if a person has stated you buy username or quoted you in their post, then the likelihood is there will always been an instance where your username appears. (Also this site has been spidered by many different search engines, internet caches and other "cabals", which means even removing the information from here today, it could take years and possibly never for it to be removed from the internet as a whole.)

You could try emailing an administrator to attempt to get them to delete it, alternatively if you give them a different username to convert your current username to, you could change your profile information and become a different entity altogether (which you'd never have to log into again)

I wouldn't mind my post still being around, I don't even really care about my username, I'd just prefer my information not be kept in the server (I'm thinking specifically postal codes and things that I don't want people finding).

Does anyone know an administrator I can contact?

    Paranoia is rampant, right?

You do realise deleting your information here, doesn't delete the NSA's records right?

If you've got posts here with specific information you want removed, just PM me the posts you want the information removed from.
As for the account, you should be able to PM James R or Plazma Inferno! about deleting/cleaning.

I'd personally be more concerned about sites like Facebook for your information, as while you might not post your info up, friends of yours might and those are the sorts of companies that get their data audited.

It's not about paranoia, it's about security.

I want my *account information* deleted, not individual posts.

Are you able to help me do this?

A query on this has been launched internally, you might or might not get a response on this subject as a PM (or just find you don't have an account to log into anymore) Either way it will be sorted whenever humanly possibly. (I'm closing this thread on that pretence.)
