The Other Boleyn Girl, starring Natalie Portman. Really well done. You're pretty much glued to it from start to finish. I highly recommend! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I can't believe though that rottentomatoes.com gave it 42%. :/ I would see for yourself. However, I tend to like movies that the critics hate.
haha yes maybe Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! a movie NOT to bother watching...The Call with Halle Berry. Ugh. Started off meh, oh-kay. But, then it just spiraled into absurdity. Halle Berry's acting was quite good, though.
I go in the afternoon in bright sunshine to sit in a dark and nearly empty theater…The Bicycle Thief "We are shown a poor man trying to find work. We see his wife, his son, we feel their fear, the loom of hunger. Gradually, de Sica’s love of this man makes him come alive, makes him human. The thief who steals his bicycle is faceless, beyond notice, one of the ignominious and detestable of the earth. All of our sympathy goes to his victim who, without the bicycle, will lose his job. We follow him in his desperate search, feel him, suffer his frustration, enter his despair, finally become him—then he steals a bicycle! And, suddenly, we have stolen a bicycle, are one with all men, high and low, good and bad, and weep for all that is faceless and voiceless and moves with heavy heart over the dark earth. What a grand thing de Sica does, what a great and disinterested love to take as its object this limited, thwarted, and weak man, and, by going out to him with such caring, such patient observing, to make him not only live—though that’s miracle enough—but our brother! I most deeply salute a man with the soul to do that, and if ever I find myself seeking out the privileged, the interesting, the beautiful, I hope I will remember the bicycle thief and that I am he." ~Allen Wheelis
Maybe I'm behind everyone else on this one, but I watched Primer for the first time last week. And again a couple of days later. Spectacular movie. Have a lot of respect for Caruth, as he doesn't spoon feed you the plot. You have to actually pay attention. This is something modern cinema has gotten lazy with. His new film Ustream Color is up on Netflix. As is Dredd. So that's my weekend sorted Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Ah, Primer. Good film indeed. But even after a few viewings I'm still not sure i have it fully nailed down as to the complexity. IP Man is good, as river suggests. A couple I have seen recently: Fortress of War (also known as "Brest Fortress") - 2010 Russian film about the defence of Brest Fortress. The Front Line - 2011 Korean film about a group having to take and surrender a hill numerous times in the Korean War, and then having to assault it again even when they know that a truce has been signed but which will only be in effect after a further 12 hours or so.
Yeah I'm the same. Nowhere near smart enough to take in everything that happens there. What I did understand, I really bloody enjoyed.
Primer was a very good and highly underrated movie, as was "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel" and "Time Crimes" links : - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910554/ _ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480669/
I've wondered about that movie, R1D2....I *may* have to check it out...really not my thang. I'm going to see this with friends later today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elysium_(film) I'll report back as to my rating. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, friends and I ended up missing the afternoon showing of Elysium...so opted to see The Butler. Off-the-chain fantastic movie! I highly recommend. I've included this link to give you an idea of what it's about... Outstanding in every way. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Butler
