I am not sure where this should go. I accidentally found a site which stated a scientist could either create a warp drive or a quantum drive in the future for space travel. He states one could create a warp/quantum energy bubble. The bubble in the front of the ship would be smaller then the bubble in the rear causing the ship to go to light speed, but have the capability to travel faster than light inside the bubble energy. Thoughts please? Paul :shrug:
He was probably talking about the Alcubierre drive, in which a portion of space is "warped" to allow the appearance of faster than light travel. It actually works the opposite of what you said above; space is contracted in front of the shop and expanded behind the ship. In that area the ship does not go faster than light; relative to the space around it it's going less than lightspeed. But the ship plus the warped area, overall, goes faster than light. That's the theory, but we are centuries away from having the technology (or even materials) to even begin working on this.
billvon, Yes, the Alcubierre drive. But how can one contract space and create a warp in front of the ship and expand it in the rear of the ship? The ship would have to have a energy drive to push it forward. The way I seem to understand this is a energy force is created in the front of the ship then envelopes the ship like a wind test over the ship then behind the ship creates a larger energy warp drive and the ship is pushed forward. How is this energy created in a vacuum? It would seem this energy form or force would be like a caterpillar's moving action? Paul
billvon, Thought. Inside tornadoes and hurricanes is a peaceful field that has boundaries. These boundaries do not go into the outside chaos of the tornadoes or hurricanes or vice versa, If one could figure out how this process works then this Alcubierre drive might be invented today. But creating this field in a vacuum is the trick. (One would have to use the matter in space to create a energy field). How can one take space/matter and create a field that changes space matter to a smaller field except to use matter in some form with another energy of some sort? Paul
Expanding/contracting space-time I dont understand how specifically one would contract or expand space, is it the "bubble" itself thats causes this? and how would this "bubble" be generated even if the negative energy was found? Please help im really confused. Im also not a scholar either guys, just here to learn so bear with me plz
