Those people are wrong. How many religons actually preach what they do? I have yet to see in the Christian Bible any support for the genocides that occured during the Reformation. "Love thy neighbor as thyself" does not promote aggression. Ultimately, evil people will use whatever they can to obtain power. Religon is not evil; those who misuse it are.

It's a physiological truth. The best I can do is try to reduce the amount of unnecessary stress and drama and sadness in my life, but there's always going to be an amount that exists no matter what.

In that case, you appear to firmly believe that you are your body, that your body is the alpha and omega of your existence.

What reason is there to believe otherwise?

It's not about already believing otherwise; it's about rethinking one's sense of surety about a statement (such as "I am my body, the body is the alpha and omega of my existence"), whether one's sense of surety is really justified, especially if taking said statement for granted has as a consequence suffering for onself and others.

I didn't say "already" believe otherwise. You added that part. I simply asked you what reason there was to believe otherwise. Why raise the point about reconsidering it if you don't think there's reason to suspect an alternative?

And how does taking it for granted make it any more consequential than believing in it after careful consideration? I guess I'm wondering why you simply assume I've never given it any thought.
