i7 removing the heatspreader to replace the TIM

Using this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXs0I5kuoX4 I was able to remove my heatspreader from the 3770k and replace it with Thermal Fusion 400. The old temps were 72C full load and the new ones with this change are 65C full load using the Hyper Evo 212! Incredible change.

Anyways I just wanted to post this since I don't come here often anymore, it's something worth knowing about. I was very careful doing this process because I thought the edge of the razorblade might scratch the PCB, however it didn't. I also used a toothbrush dipped in alcohol to clean the underside of the chip because some of the glue had gotten stuck from when I took it off. I just used toothpicks to clean the glue out of the heatspreader crevices.

I couldn't personally be more pleased, but the cheap TIM they used is insulting honestly this CPU wasn't cheap!

But anyways I've also replaced the TIM in my laptop with positive results, this just shows if you can replace the TIM with higher quality stuff.

I use a solid state HD so it doesn't heat up that much because it has no moving parts.

For the reduction of seven degrees, you were willing to do a very risky procedure that could have easily turned an expensive CPU into useless junk?

Honestly just changing out the stock thermal grease with some good old artic silver would have gotten you the same results or better without the risk.

 

Well, that's the way to go if you don't actually need the storage space..
