    Hey :X

I'm going to build a new PC eventually, one for 1080p gaming with Skyrim and other stuff like Metro 2033 on my HDTV. What I was wondering is:

How many of you use your HDTV only for a monitor?

Would you use Intel or AMD?

What PSU is your suggestion? I want one certified for energy saving.

The case I thought of using was an Antec Sonata, supposedly it's designed to be quiet and comes with an Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply. But I also think this may be to weak for modern day systems? Also the case lacks a USB 3.0 port in the front :-( Any ideas? I looked at Lian Li but............... some don't look so great and reviews are spotty, I thought they were better so wtf?

Should I use crossfire or whatever it's called?

    Someone suggested a 7750 GPU?

Keep it around $600 ok :-| SSD drives are available also on Newegg for cheap, but........... I'm concerned, this stuff is still new and I've read some bizarre reviews about these things

What does it all mean do they work/reliable?

    Alright, well........

I wanna say my plan is to use fans from a specific vendor, they are these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999199 Enermax Englobal Magnetic Bearing fans, you can remove their blades and clean them!

Oh, one thing.....share your experiences in building, what kinda BS you ran into? I had an ASUS motherboard and loved the Q-connector that made plugging in the connections easy, but....... the board itself lacked features and was pretty lousy. My preferred vendor is probably going to be Gigabyte, they are just much better IMO.......... but I also like MSI. Either of these preferred.

Shit I just got done painting, anyways let me know people thanks, it'll be awhile before I buy anything, probably will get the fans first then the case. Anyway ttyl

darksidz, for $600, you aren't going to get a great gaming rig, in all honesty. I'd say shoot for at least $1,000 or so, so you get some longevity out of it as an HD Gaming rig. If you like, I'll shoot you a text/e-mail with a test build - just let me know what you want your final price-point to be (custom PC builds are kind of my hobby/side job)

Not possible the graphics card alone is going to cost you over $400 to get a basic HD card, to get a good quality one your looking between 800-1000. Thats without the case/power supply, motherboard, chip, memory etc

    Yeah dude...

You're looking at 1000-1200 easily for a decent gaming 'puter.

If you want a cheep gaming system for that price range buy a console, ps3 or xbox360 either will run skyrim garentied

If you want a good PC setup your going to have to pay a lot more and it's going to need upgrading every time a new high end game you want to play comes out.

Best option, if you want 3D go PS3, if you just want HD take your pick

I think that system looks pretty good...although I might want to spend a little more on the vid card. Crossfire is a technology that lets you connect multiple vid cards together.

(let's remember how hard darkie is on computers. This is like the third one he's been through in recent past.

You are right MacGuyver, I read up and http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7770-7750-benchmark,3135-11.html

It shows the 6850 outperforming the newer 7770 series GPU. I read about this on another site too during their benchmarks. They called it a disappointment

I'd probably get a GTX 560 or higher videocard after seeing these, but that might put me around 650? Yea...... I'll be reading around and looking, I don't have money to buy yet anything but I want the Englobal magnetic bearing fans first cuz they are quiet and can be cleaned.

Ebay is your answer for cheap graphics cards. I have snapped up many top spec graphics cards for cheap. Easy to build a cheap gaming rig. I ended up getting a 560ti recently for 200 dollars. PSU cost me 50 dollars. Coolermaster elite case cost me 46 dollars. Motherboard cost me 61 dollars. Intel extreme 2 core processor cost me 80 dollars. And memory is cheap enough, If you have a spare hard drive hanging around you could use that. And a cheap black spare disc drive.
I can play virtually any game maxed out now except arma 2 with everything on ultra. So it can be done.

No point in getting a card better than a 580 at the most, though. And even that is overpowered for gaming. 560ti can play virtually any game maxed out.

Sorry your wrong, gaming NEEDS the mos power. The 460 (which is what I'm about to replace) is so under powered for current games and then you have to think what will come next year or you will just be playing catchup. If building new computer today I wouldn't buy any card that wasn't released at worst late last year, better this year

That vid card is going to bottleneck like a bitch mate, sorry to say - (128 bit memory interface cannot handle high end gaming very well at max settings). Also, what kind of PSU are you going to use? You do NOT want to use a cheapo one, as if it goes south it can easily kill your mobo/cpu/vid card and other components. Don't forget fans for cooling, and what about primary HDD and ODD?

As I said before your better off buying console if you want to keep the price down and still get good performance the ps3 does 3D and I belive the Xbox is starting too, Xbox tends to have more games programmed in 1080p where as a lot on ps3 tend to be 720p but both look fantastic and you can garentie whatever comes out of the box WILL run on the system. Further more if you have problems you don't get the 3 way buck passing you do with PC with the game developer blaming windows, windows blaming the video card/drivers, NVIDIA blaming the game designer etc and you get stuck with an unplayable game, if game doesn't work on ps3 or 360 you call a 13 number and they will investigate what's wrong and fix it, not pass the buck

I use those in my desktop and server systems at home because they're a heck of a lot quieter than conventional fans. However, I do wonder whether they'll shift enough air to properly cool a gaming system; my entire i5 server under full load takes less power than a high-end GPU.

Two issues to be aware of with using an HDTV as a monitor are that the gamma is different and the stupid $#&@s who build TVs continue to scale the input signal and crop the edges even though it's a pure digital signal over HDMI that perfectly matches the resolution of the screen. When I plug my laptop into the TV here the picture is much darker and the edges are missing; I lose about half the HUD in 'Left For Dead' for example.

Can you guys give me some insights here, I'm looking at SSD disks and well they seem unreliable alot, many posts on Newegg under most about BSOD errors, them failing in a months time, so what do you think is it worth buying one?
