I have had a disability since the age of twenty-seven when I nearly died from a rupturing cerebral haemorrhage and was operated on by one of the world's premiere neurosurgeons.

    Arteriovenous malformation - cerebral

I've had more CAT scans and MRI's than I care to count. (Mostly just MRI's when I found out how terrible CAT's were for your health.)

I've had Two Brain surgeries, one, "procedure" and one cyber-knife surgery. . . if you want to count that as a surgery or procedure or what ever. I don't know what to count that star trek like procedure as.

It has at once, altered my life, irrevocably, and yet, I believe has opened doors of perception not available to most. After all, how many get the chance to lay down, and meditate while being operated on by a robot?

But, the old grey matter still operates when not in terrible pain, dispensing pearls of wisdom, and now immune to electro-magnetic radiation-brain washing technologies that come at most people through TV, radio, movies, etc. . . lol I feel like I have "woken up" after this whole experience. Not that I ever wanted to have it. It was nothing but hell.

I can tell you some secrets about "Tinnitus" that have to deal with my disability, but none of you would believe me, tell me what I believe is unsubstantiated and woo woo, etc. so I'll just leave it at that.

Good post. I became a vegetarian, (well, I'll eat meat if it is raised on a farm that uses free range w/o hormone injection) because after all my surgeries, my head is very sensitive to diet now. Drugs don't do it, though they have tried just about everything to treat my headaches with drugs. Whole foods, natural food, and non GMO foods are the key to well being.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, Esotericist. Your challenges have been considerable and their origin beyond your ability to control.

From a bit of study that I have done in the field of genetics, it would appear that our lives reflect genotype, phenotype and the vagaries of fortune, pretty much in equal measure.

A few things we have input into, such as what we may choose to eat from that which is available, yet even there we may have inherent sensitivity to some foods. The genes we inherit, are beyond our control, although one wonders what potential there may be for human intervention in the future.

It seems we agree that whole foods, natural food, and non GMO foods are better choices for ourselves and for the planet.

I've been quite lucky. I live quite an active lifestyle but no serious injuries, no broken bones etc. My health generally is good. I haven't had a cold, sore throat in over a year now. I've only had a cough once in my life, around 11 years ago. At school i'd never fall ill which would frustrate me as I'd not get time off. When I am in other countries I can eat almost anything I like, I drink the water there as well and nothing happens, I don't get diarrhea. I've tried to throw the worst at my stomach, but it deals with it fine.

I don't do anything special, can't claim to be a health freak, so I can only assume its down to genetics (luck).
