    Please do not forget, these are models. You must understand why we need models and we do not just say it is.
    Because we do not know exactly what they are.
    Models help us understand their behavior under certain conditions.
    But we know very well their properties. And that is important.

    Idea of an all-encompassing universal medium is taboo to most physicists. At the same time they are not comfortable with illogical assumption of 'action at a distance through empty space'. Therefore we generally use different terms, like different types of fields, virtual particles, etc., to substitute for a medium of interaction and avoid wrath of opponents to universal medium. Various fields of interaction have no real form or structure, except imaginary framework suitable for the associated phenomenon.
