    That's a sorry part of the society. Wonder will they also go for girls only and boys only schools, places etc. in this modern age.

    You've decided that the racial classification system will continue, and you reason for saying this seems to be related to clean and safe neighborhoods? What does this have to do with color-coded racial lines that get blurred every time two people from two different "races" meet and fall in love?

    Check your premise, because white rednecks are hardly the only group capable of such intolerances.

    Religious Redneck Retards will never complain about your lawn. These are the people who keep their Christmas lights up all year long, to quote Gretchen Wilson's song "Redneck Woman."

    True.
    Actually, I'm ok with them disliking me and leaving me alone.

    It's the ones who don't leave me alone...and in my personal experience, that's almost always been young white males who look like rednecks... whatever a redneck is.

    Since I practice white-trash engineering, I am not totally unaligned with redneck culture myself...
    We're friends, the attack wife and I, with a redneck guy...atheist redneck who used to be our D&D party member...But he's still pretty redneck.

    I live in a city of 5 million where white people are a minority. Over half of the 5 million people are immigrants, yet there is several generations of immigrants living here before this so we have many non Caucasians born here.

    Despite a huge culture mix with over 140 languages and dialects spoken here and churches of the world spread everywhere Toronto Canada is heralded as one of the most multicultural cities in the world and is ranked as the safest large metropolitan area in North America by Places Rated Almanac.

    half of all immigrants to the City of Toronto have lived in Canada for less than 15 years.

    Chinese (420,000);
    Italian (195,000);
    Punjabi (138,000);
    Tagalog/Pilipino (114,000);
    Portuguese (113,000)

    I can say that people here do not seem to look towards their own race as often as you would think. I am very comfortable congregating with people from east india, or would help a Muslim lady to her car with groceries.

    It really does not seem as important here. I am Caucasian for the record.

    Hmm,I thought Toronto was smaller. Bigger than here, population-wise.
    I live on the one side of town, immigrant communities are mostly on the other side, and Houston is just all sorts of sprawled out.
    Sounds like a nice place, Toronto.

    Everythings big in Ontario! Yeah we have 5.5 million people in the GTA (greater toronto area). I think if every culture saw Toronto there would be less racial wars.

    Janis Ian was promoting her autobiography and telling a lot of anecdotes when I last saw her in concert. She is a big sci-fi fan, well-known in the community, and she was signed up to be a celebrity speaker at a big convention in Toronto. She said to her partner, "You know, gay marriage is now legal up there. Why don't you come with me, it will be fun to be together, and we can finally get married."

    When they checked into their hotel the clerk asked what brought them to Toronto. Before Janis could say, "The science fiction convention," her partner blurted out, "We're getting married!!!"

    The clerk switched them to the bridal suite for no additional charge, and the staff began treating them like royalty. Everywhere they went, as soon as people discovered that they were there for a wedding, they bought them champagne, took their photos, and treated them like family.

    She said, "It was such a wonderful feeling, to have the hearts of an entire nation on our side. The experience of a lifetime"

    . . . . . .

    "And then we came home."

    Footnote: I don't know which city they live in. The concert was in Alexandria, VA, and gay marriage is now legal right across the river in Washington, DC. I think it's encouraging to note that it is now legal in:
    • Toronto
    • Washington
    • Mexico City
    The capital cities of all three countries in North America!

    Yes. My wife and I capitalized on the gay marriage boom in Toronto, and I ran a gay marriage website and member information. I accidentally uploaded another website over top of it (easy to do on same host), and lost a lot of updates. A couple from Hong Kong sent me my entire website contents as they had copied all the pages to their computer. I was flattered and relieved.

    Toronto is not just multicultural.
    We have the worlds tallest freestanding tower with restaurant on top.
    The largest annual national exhibition.
    One of the largest zoo's in the world. It was for a time.
    and is pretty awesome for entertainment. It is like Canada's Hollywood.

    I remember being miserable at all of my school dances because of the music choices. I'd like to see proms that were split not by race but by genre.

    Except. . .I've the feeling it would end up pretty evenly divided anyway. Maybe one day we'll learn to recognize but still appreciate cultural differences, instead of making ourselves miserable pretending they don't exist.

    If you look in terms of data processing, segregation allows us to work a smaller data set than the amount needed for integration and assimilation. Because that is easier, it is appealing to more people.

    For example, if there is democrat and republican, being one or the other only requires you deal with half the total data. This half data set will give you a lopsided picture of reality. But since half is easier to do than whole this will be preferred by most people. The ease of half data tends to cause loss of reality since too much data is missing to draw the best curve.

    The limited, but easier data set needed for segregation often creates problems for people. If you use only half the data, you might draw the best conclusions for that data. This will give you conviction. But since this is only part of the data, the conclusion, although full of conviction, may not be right in terms of the reality of all the data. What you have is conviction and detachment from full reality. The combination of conviction and fear helps segregate us toward birds of a feather and away from other birds.

    The American melting pot was possible because people were smarter back in the day and and could deal with the larger data sets needed to merge. Liberal and PC culture has dumbed down everyone, so we don't hurt feelings. The result is less data handling capacity. The conclusion drawn with the tiny data sets are now different for all, causing the ingredients to leave the melting pot and segregate.
