...because this is one Texan who would love to come visit for the next couple of months. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! We are having a record breaking summer here in Dallas. We're on course to beat most of the records set in the scorcher of 1980. We will break the record Sat. for the most consecutive days over 100 (42).. and have been setting records of some sort or another each day, whether its a record high temp or record high low temp. We haven't had a drop of rain since June 22th..and all my plants have died...the yard has just about to give up the ghost too. The pecan trees hardly have any pecans on them...I feel sorry for the squirrels. Our normal average high temp for this time of year is around 97..and we've had temps over 110 in the last week. I'm just soooo sick of the heat...so anyone WAY up north...or in the southern hemisphere that would like a visitor for a month or two...I don't take much room, and be happy to do any handyman work in exchange for room and board. You know things are hot when they forecast high temperatures of 104...and you think..thank god it's cooling off!
Yikes! I just looked at the Weather Network for your region and I can't even contemplate handling those kind of temperatures. The Yukon is a most interesting region and accommodating in many ways. Here is the link to our free classified section of the best local newspaper. If you have your passport, it might be worth your while to post an add and see if an opportunity comes of it. There is a drop-down menu under category to select under which one would like their advertisement placed. http://yukon-news.com/classified/30word/ The title banner at the top of the page has several entertaining animated graphics that kick in at intervals..........wait for it Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! ........hiker.......bear.......truck......airplane, etc.
That's because you are a kind person. I knew you would respond to this thread...and would be honored to spend time with you. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Thank you for your kind remarks. I am not able to entertain visitors at this time, and so I provided what avenue I could for your consideration, knowing that many come to the Yukon on cultural exchange etc. Certainly it is becoming more difficult for people to travel between countries and one of my co-workers was turned away at the U.S. border a couple of years ago because she could not prove that she had sufficient economic means for the duration of her planned visit. I wish you well in finding a reprieve from the heat and if you should ever find yourself in the Yukon, it would be a pleasure to make your acquaintance while you are visiting here. I've had some invites to see Australia, which is a land of interest to me, but the present does not suggest that I will be making that trip in the immediate future. Still, it is pleasing to make connections through these forums, for one never knows where life's path shall lead. One can never have too many friends.
Houston isn't getting it as bad as Dallas, we've only been running about 97 to 102. Pretty toasty though.
Ok...I really can't leave Texas..but I can bitch about the heat Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

. I'm cryin like a refugee ...... lolol . You don't get off that lightly ...... The mountain Guest House kicks off in September and I expect the Wolf and the Ice Princess to be present !! Mutawintji
The Blue Ridge/Appalachia/Smokies seemed to have been between 75F and 85F the other weekend, it was actually warmer with the Aircon on. Mind you I would suggest about five states worth of people escaping the heat swarmed down on places like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, making it probably the worlds largest people jam. Perhaps that's what you should look to doing, finding a mountain retreat. Incidentally on my way back I found myself following a winding road through a small Valley with a Hamlet called "Valhalla", I just wish they had a T-shirt stop for saying I'd been there.
LOL....we have a few amenities in these parts. We are here: http://www.maplandia.com/canada/yukon-territory/yukon/whitehorse/whitehorse-google-earth.html
If you showed up on my doorstep, I suppose I would take you in like all the other strays, lol.... I'm in the process of mentoring a person with the appropriate skills to look after my interests in the event that I ever should foresee a need or opportunity to travel. September 2011 is not possible, though I am sincere in the hope that your offer includes a 'rain check'. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
ooops .... forgot about the ponies ..... anxiety separation syndrome ? Yes .... rain check is fine .... lol mutawintji
I was just joking Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! But believe me, Whitehorse is tiny compared to the biggies of Upper and Lower Canada Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
LOL.....I know that, and also that anyone who is interested can find out most anything they want to know about the Yukon since the introduction of the internet and Google Earth. Part of the uniqueness of the north is the distance between communities and the amount of space and undeveloped wilderness that lies between them. The whole of the Yukon has approximately 35,000 people as of 2009, and definitely under 40,000 at present. There is a lot of resource potential and rapid development underway as parties are jockeying for position in the exploration and development phases of future mineral extraction. The north is poised to make it through the current economic crisis, but at what cost? :bugeye:
I joked to my friends that if I became a muti-billionaire, I'd move to somewhere where the neighbors are like 5 KM away. No problem, we can still be next doors. I just build a house 10 km by 10 km (yes you read right, kilometers) and is 3 kilometers tall ( looking for a 10 to 3 ratio of length to height ). I'd have a magnetic train ( the type they have in Japan ) running across the house for travel. About the North making it through the economic crisis...the Triple-E of Canadian Legislature, don't forget that Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Everything Ontario wants, they get Everything Quebec wants they get Everyone else gets whats left It is good for me, but its sad. Hey, I have a conscience Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Wow...Yukon is smaller then my city in population!
Okay. First you have to make your billions and then you can come to the north and employ the entire population in the building and maintaining of your new 'home'. Will have to get special provision for the size of this building. Any idea on what type of construction you'd like to use? You'll get shot down with the three km height thing as that is even taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. I think the present height restriction is 4 floors although one condo developer is appealing to build a 6 level building. By all means, dream big. Just be sure to have a grip on the specifics and none can quite place you in any specific category of crazy. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Haha yeah, I probably need the entire population of Yukon to maintain the house. I won't have to worry about winter, because if you can afford a house like that, I'm pretty sure one can afford full climate control and interior artificial gardens. Well, I'm pretty sure they can make an exception to the rule, because of the huge base. Imagine if it was real lol, my friend said she rather buy a huge island lol.
It might actually make sense to have a large apartment block along the lines of your house concept when living in this climate. Instead of one central heating system, they could be independent relays positioned at intervals, linked for efficiency but able to be closed off and by-passed for repairs or maintenance. Should be able to save a considerable amount of heating expense over the equivalent in free-standing single dwellings.
