this is all you can come back with? do you realize this is how teeny boppers usually respond when they can't think of any rebuttal? even i've never done that as it's an extremely silly cop-out.

so gung-ho but so weak. perhaps that's why you positively reek of adoration and infatuation with the military. you really think it's not obvious??

anyone reading back on this thread can tell you are blinded with it.

you really should stop pretending to be a know-it-all because you aren't good at it. it's not you. you have to be really good at debate in order to pull it off and you don't have that talent. this last bit proved to me you are bluffing. lmao

14 year olds don't make those decisions, they only fantasize about them.

But if they are 17 or 18 (hell I know UK Commando's who joined at 16) I would want them to be warriors. Its an honorable profession, has been from the beginning of time. They're the ones who protect you from invasion, they're the ones who remove lethal UXO's so children can play. They're also the ones who, if they are designed for it, that make decisions that save lives. I would be proud! Now if he wanted to be a world class chef or a landscaper or go into construction, that would be fine too. AS LONG AS THEY STRIVE TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN!!!

You do a diservice for every man who ever fought in WW2 against fascism, you do a disservice against every soldier who protected innocent instead of triggering against them. You do a disservice against every soldier who protected the man at his side. You do a disservice against your father and brother and no I won't take that back because you equate them with 'thugs' and 'executioners'. And for all special forces who do difficult secret ops, you do them the worst disservice of all because they protect you from threats you are not even aware of.

i notice you tend to be intimidated by conflict or heated arguments.

There is nothing wrong with honest work, even as a garbage man. Children don't always aspire to what we would want them to. The profession isn't what's important but the values they live by, how they confront life and treat others. Sometimes people have to fight, that's a reality I accept.

can you come up with a rebuttal or is your only strength is living in your husband's military shadow?

what's even more comical is you talk about life and death as if you understand it so much more when i bet your ass hasn't experienced combat or seen combat or death in combat except being a military housewife.

I repeat, a garbageman's job IS honest and useful, just as cleaning shit from public toilets.
But you wouldn't want your child do that.

Also, today's army and wars doesn't have to do with protection , really.

No but would you dishonor your own child if they chose or wound up in that profession? Some jobs are vocations, some jobs are a means to an end and some jobs are for survival. There is no shame in any of that if its honest work, that's my meaning. The quality of a man or a woman is not only their profession, I think you know that.

    Yes it is honest, sure.

But the win lose ratio of an army profession is just absurd.
They dazzle children with the whole 'duty honor' and they steal their lives.
I would not allow my child to waste its life cause some people want more money.

Not really, for Western forces the odds are quite good compared to those they are fighting. Some young men are dazzled for for sure but also are some bankers and university professors who expound policies that are not of any good for the nation or other nations, no to mention doctors who allow people to go without proper treatment because of insurance and cost benefit hospital benefits. Would you dissuade someone from entering those professions?

Most western trained soldiers are trained to such a high degree that casualties are minimal compared to that of those they fight. And yet think of it! Those who fight without the technological expertise of the west do not hesitate to fight back and risk their sons. Are they wasting their lives? I think not. There is no wasted value on either side because both do what they do for the person standing right next to them as well as for themselves. Its a life or death scenario. The battle field is the great equalizer, just ask the Vietnamese.

We are losing this war because of the COST of resources not the cost of men. We are losing because they are slowly bleeding us in terms of money and lastly of men. Their causalities way outweigh our own. We drop daisy cutters for fucks sake that decimates areas for miles, man woman child and animal all. They fight honorably in their own right and they do so with the knowledge that they can out fight us through perseverance and take their losses. This is how they fatigued the Soviets and how they will fatigue the americans.

this proves, without a doubt, you don't know what you are talking about. it's again, your idealism.

regular soldiers are not necessarily highly trained unless you are talking about special forces. if you are just talking skills, there are militaries that are not western which train their regular army much tougher. what gives western 'militaries' the major advantage is the technology and resources.

According to the Vietnamese government, 1,100,000 North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong military personnel deaths during the Vietnam War, number of US servicemen was approximately 8,744,000.

Iraq: Total (US) coalition deaths 4,777. Iraqi deaths civilian are estimated as 113,494 – 122,483 (and that's a low estimate)

Afghanistan: US and coalition deaths estimated as 2,616 in 2011. Estimated Afghan insurgent deaths are unverifiable.

Pretty good odds if you think of the ratio. The fact is that we create more damage than we take on ourselves but we tend not to think of the casualties we inflict, but don't blame US or coalition troops for that blame US media, they suffer much more than we do.

Actually they are very well trained which is how they survive their experience on the ground. Until you can come up with some data to support your opinion its just couch opinions without any evidence. You my friend are 'full of shit'.

Sorry, I haven't read beyong page 1 yet but...

I don't know if he has anger issues. My suggestion is merely that if you think you want to do something you should have a realistic notion of what it means. I've been to army cadets schools and they are no prep for watching people you know die violently in your vicinity. I think a stint with veterans will help him to see his goals from the POV of people who used to be him, have been there and done that.

Also he is just 14. There are many things I wanted to be as a teen too, none of which have any resemblance to my prosaic existence now.

what is the point of this except proving my point?

read the above. as well, i said their advantage is technology and resources and not necessarily being highly trained or skilled.

the issue wasn't kill or death ratios. do you know what the point was? it doesn't seem like it.

It can but you hit the nail on the head when you speak of knowledge, or at least the attempt of having some kind of first hand knowledge of violence. Its easy, way too easy for a young american to think of glory and not understand the reality of death, destruction and the fragility of life in war, not to mention the misery if you are unlucky enough to survive it as a civilian. We disagree on many issues Sam but this is not one where you will find me opposed. War sucks for EVERYONE, but its an unavoidable reality for all those who are in its midst. The right and wrong is another argument all together. I know too many men, american men who have suffered from their engagement, I also know those who are able to remain intact. I am sure that's the same, no, rather I am sure that is more true for Afghans since they know why they fight.

Oh shut up already you're the most here without any knowledge whether it be actual, dialectic, academic or statistical. Go and finish sucking on your lollipop. And have mommy change your diaper while you're at it.
