It's kind of trivial to be saying that after I die I won't know it (or anything else). Heck, didn't we all figure that out in about the 5th grade? But concluding that the only way to know death is to experience it first hand, and because that is impossible, we can't die is a little much. That is an epistemological position that went in the dumper when we figured out how the scientific method works. Besides I have the answer: Remember how it was before you were born? That's exactly what it's going to be like after you die. I find that both comforting and a little sad. But the older I get, the more comforting it is. I've had a good life.
This thread is useless. We know absolutly nothing about death, except you cease to live.. in this universe at least.
Wrong. This wasn't proved yet. Otherwise lay down some proofs. The only ridiculous thing in this thread are people trying to tell me, that they know how it is not, because it wasn't proven. While at the same time defaulting to a position that wasn't proven either. All I'm saying that subjective death is impossible because of the mere statistics, based on the current knowledge about the universe. I'm not saying it is this way for sure. So as I said from the beginning, and this is not an argument, but a conditional statement: IF (parallel universe exist in commonly scientifically accepted form) THEN (it can be determined how it is statistically likely that you exist there in exactly the same state of the world, except you're alive) ELSE (there still exist a possibility, that even without parallel universes, the universe is cyclical, and therefore it can be statistically determined how many cycles it would take, to create a universe that will be same enough to the extent, that a person dead in this universe won't recognize it, and that person will survive in that universe somehow) IF (one of the variants above is physically true) THEN (it is possible!, that subjectively the person wouldn't recognize that it died, because self-awareness IS the function of physical reality - no soul, or something, then same configuration 1:1 will exhibit the same characteristics) That's all I wanted to talk about. Some local "philosophers" were offended, by not using the language of philosophy, I didn't even wanted to. I wanted to talk seriously not to nitpicking over the meaning of the words used. Which evidently this forum is all about. That I consider pointless, at least at level exhibited here. Have a nice immortal (probably) life. And don't be so thick, you. regards, Kate
