    I'm not sure...

Is there any polling showing whether people approve of this move or no?

I hear that it's a trend among progressives to criticize it... But what about the "mainstream" democrats?

Why does the lunatic fringe seemingly have such a hold on the general opinion of the average American? Is it that the average American fears his government and so is inclined to believe in silly conspiracies? Or is there a nasty racial element at work in this particular case? Or is it the fault of Fox News and similar peddlars of lies and misinformation?

    What do you think?

From the point of view of an average Australian, some of the stuff that Americans apparently take seriously is quite seriously nuts. I mean, Trump for President? Seriously?

A different take on Obama's handling of this:

    http://www.pensitoreview.com/2011/04/27/obama-2012-campaign-lays-trap-for-birthers-gop/

It doesn't matter if it's true to these people. In their version of reality, if enough of them believe it's true, it becomes true. They hate him for being a Kenyan, they hate him for being a Muslim, they hate him for being a socialist. That there is no evidence that he's any of these that could convince a reasonable person only emphasizes that these people are not reasonable.

Yea I heard somebody smarter than me (could be anybody almost) say that it'd help trump getting support from birthers. As in Obama would LOVE to run against trump and do anything to keep him in the race.

And the average Australian would be right. I have lived in this country for a long time. And I have never seen such craziness in American politics. This rise in craziness appears to me to be directly related to the trashing of the Fairness Doctrine under the Reagan administration - the policy that required TV and radio stations to present both sides.

Now we have a very entertaining media that is openly biased reporting misinformation 24 hours a day. It is indeed a very sorry state. And it may have come to the point where we are no longer able to govern ourselves.

    Personal Accountability and Uranus

Anything to excuse the GOP, right?

I mean, sure, I could try to tell people that Barack Obama comes from Uranus. And yes, that would be my behavior.

But if fifty percent of Republicans believe me, another twenty aren't sure, and the reason is that the party is being led around by people whose entire identity is invested in proving that Barack Obama is from Uranus, that's their behavior.

Nobody held a gun to Republicans' heads and made them become racist punks. They did that all on their own.

You might find this funny: Did you know that once upon a time, the GOP was the party that hawked the idea of "personal accountability"?

Yeah, I know, isn't that weird? It used to be that if you were mentally ill, conservatives thought that was your fault. They tried to discriminate against gay people for choosing to be gay.

But that all proved too much for them. They didn't want to be held accountable for their extramarital affairs, or their anti-gay hypocrisy. And they didn't want their high-profile donors held responsible for the damage their businesses did. And they certainly didn't want to stop and think about how their racist, revolutionary hatred might have affected society's boundaries of acceptability.

They actually used to be the party of personal accountability.

I can see why they don't want to be that posse anymore. Whenever they embarrass themselves, it's always someone else's fault, isn't it?

I know a few, and none of them are racists to my knowledge. By the way, could you clarify what you mean by "truther"?

Oh, and then there's Alan Keyes. He looks like a self-hating racist. Have you ever gotten a good look at him?

The title of this thread is typical of the garbage that certain members of this forum are very fond of rubbing on themselves. Attack everyone's favorite black Messiah, you're a racist.

The founder of this thread should write a book about this subject, it could be called "101 Ways I'm Right and You're a Racist!"

    Garbage.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe it isn't such a fringe? What is the definition of a lunatic fringe? Smaller than 10%?

What's your delusion? Conspiracies don't exist, James R sez.

First of all, I like how all the Obama zombies were repetitiously chanting that the previous Certification of Live Birth was the real birth certificate.
"I've seen the real birth certificate, Lester; I put it online myself," says White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to Lester Kinsolving...
Oh, well then, what is this latest document? The real REAL certificate? I thought the last one was the real one.

I don't think this latest stunt by the Obama administration is going to make this issue go away. Already, questions are being asked about the certificate regarding several components of it. It will probably take another day or two to completely expose this thing as another fraud, but the problems already raised are interesting.

And the certificate isn't the only issue about Obama's credentials.

Either way, they have taken too long on this. They stonewalled on this issue and raised excuse after excuse. Now, after 2+ years, suddenly they feel compelled to "cooperate" with their critics, and we're supposed to put our faith in this most recent act in the qualifications drama?
I'm not sorry to say, that I won't be following blindly.

This incident seems timed, very conveniently, to counteract the already best selling book (based on pre-order sales) by Jerome Corsi on this subject that's coming out.

Alan Keyes and other black Republicans are opportunists, they have to be even more radical than their peers to establish their conservative credibility. I'm beginning to think Tiassa was correct, this is just more fuel for the lunatic fire.

I don't get it. White liberals only elected Obama because he was black... now they're complaining that the only reason Republicans want to see his birth certificate is because he's black... and that's somehow racist?

The hypocrisy is a fowl stench indeed.

I'll qualify that statement with an IF.. if the thing is fraudulent, it will take a while to provide evidence.
We'll see. But hardcore believers on either side will not be dissuaded regardless.

And it isn't, for all practical purposes, the original. At best, it is a "copy or abstract" as the document itself states. It's not even a photocopy of the original document on file, otherwise it wouldn't be dated at the bottom as April 25, 2011.
You would think they could have at least photocopied the 1961 version. Would it have been that hard? Or did it disintegrate?

I thought it was fuel for the racist fire. Or does lunatic = racist? I'm confused.

I don't exactly care for Keyes' ultra conservative Christian values, but he's right on some of the political issues, from what I have heard and read from him.

    It smells like a duck?

Race played, I think, a significant part for the people who elected him. And now it's a great tool to those people continuing to defend him. Cokie Roberts last week said that people call him a Muslim because they're too afraid to say it's because he's black.

They're a broken record. Half the mainstream liberal deck of cards seems to be race cards.
They need to get something new.

Spell it out for me. Not c-o-n-f-u-s-e, but the relationship between racists and lunatics.

Can you show me where I sit on that spectrum?

Why do you think that? Do you think he was somehow underqualified? Compared to who? Dubya?

There's no reasonable doubt. He's a citizen born in the US. There's no rational reason to think he's not.

    Yea...

The stalling, delaying, namecalling, derision, and deceptive behavior is a rational reason.

And the race-baiting, of course. That's always a delight.

It's because it's so hard to take poo flinging monkeys seriously. When they get a leader that can actually manage to stutter a complete sentence and people actually consider him as a GOP candidate, you kinda have to. Don't you think?

Bush was a perfect example of how qualifications have got nothing to do with becoming president. It's a popularity contest, that's all.

His father wasn't American and told at least one lie about his past, that's grounds enough.

Which is exactly how I find liberal turds like you.

But is he qualified or not? And why?

You mean his father is black and you hate black people right? And please... Who the fuck never lied in their life? You?

    I'm not a liberal.
