"Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped working"

I recently started using Windows 7 (formerly on Windows XP). Above is an error message I have been getting dozens of times a day. It doesn't appear to interfere with anything I am doing, but it is a nuisance. Any suggestions about what is going on and what can I do about it?

I kept getting a message saying Search had stopped working. Outlook 2007 performance was so bad that it was unusable. I cliked on the all programs, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll to Windows Search and right click. Select properties, in the general tab, select Startup type "Disabled" and stop the service if it's running. Everything works fine including Outlook. The only issue is that if I search for a message in Outlook or use the Vista search service it says that the search may be slow because the search service is not running. I hope this works for you.

Ir sounds like it is something different. I don't fully understand what happened, but I went back to a system restore point and the problem went away. There is still some remaining issue, involving programs that had been updated between the restore point and the present.

I believe I have narrowed down the problem as follows:

Avast is used for my anti-virus work. Whenever Avast requires an update followed by a restart the problem occurs. The problem does not appear after the Avast update, but only after the restart. To get things back to normal I do a system restore.

Apparently Avast has marked Windows as a virus.

My own analysis is that the fault is in the Avast update process, not Avast itself.

I think that you need to consult the online Help provided by the Microsoft. Can you please tell me about which Version of Windows 7 are you using alongside your system configuration and whether it is register or trial version...

I believe this kind of message pops up when one browses excessive gay porn.

After a few system restores, the problem seems to have gone away and Avast is still there. I am confused as to what happened, but since everything seems OK now, I am not pursuing it further.

I am using the current version (Windows home premium) of Windows 7 - registered.

Do you use Windows defender program at all, if not you should download it and run it.

Windows defender comes with Windows 7 and automatically runs in the background.
