Metallica didn't really do the job with it I though they should. The original is better.

Well the metallica version sounds a lot better on the keyboard

Or even the grand piano. I don't like playing the original, except on the clarinet, thats why I prefer Metallica's

So I think I may have the ending point in this fight. Let me direct your attention here:

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Cochrane_(unit)

One cochrane is about 2x10^10 joules of energy. The Tri-cobalt devices used by Voyager had an output of 20,000 teracochranes of energy or about 4x10^26 joules or about 95 petatons.

The only thing that I wonder is if they have this kind of weaponry capability why don't they use it?

well i have another question: what the hell is with star trek and these totally random units?
or what the hell is a cochrane, cuz i don't have time to read all that pseudoscience right now.

A cochrane is a unit of measurement equal to the amount of energy that it takes to establish a stable warp field that can carry a ship to a speed of warp 1.

ok, i read the page and 20 gigajoules (1 cochrane) seams a bit to small figure for warping space...just saying.
and the device Voyager used, how many did they have? were they common? WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THEY USED ANY MORE FOR THE NEXT 7 SEASONS??:bugeye:
as far as im concerned, using them enough times to still be able to count them on your hand shows they had very limited access to that kind of energy, otherwise they would equip all of their main ships with those things. so i just answered your question.

I think it may be more along the lines of the fact that it can rip a hole in subspace. Those tend not to go away but instead they get bigger over time. You can't warp travel in those areas and if its close to a planet it tends to kill stuff dead.

Also, I agree on the not enough energy to warp space. However, who really knows what it would take? All them extra dimensions (string theory) may be more accessable then you would think.
