In an effort to show national unity after the Tucson tradegy, Democrats are proposing to no longer seat members of congress by party but rather have a mixed seating arrangement.

Is it a good idea? I don't think Republicans are going to go along with the idea.

Does where you sit really matter?

This is just ridiculous. Congress reminds me of Kindergarten.

Oh I don't know that it is ridiculous. I think it is a good jesture of national unity. Jestures are imporant if you are in a leadership position. It sends a message.

What kind of message should congress and the president send the nation at the State of the Union address?

BS, it is only so it won't be so obvious how many fewer democrats there are.

    On Gestures and Jesters

    On Gestures and Jesters

Symbolically, sure, it would have some meaning, but come on—this is Congress.

There's this line in a Belle and Sebastian song that goes, "The picture was a masterpiece of comic timing; you would't laugh at all."

And sure, it's an entirely different context, but still, the phrase stands out. Yeah, Joe Wilson and James Clyburn, side by side. It's a Daily Show segment waiting to happen.

If this will help Democrats not look outnumbered maybe they should do it if they can make it happen. Maybe then it won't look like Obama and his policies just cost the Deomocrats the lower house.

You really think someone is keeping that a secret?

Somebody is trying to avoid drawing attention to it when it can be avoided. I don't blame them. Obama has been a disaster for Democrats from the perspective of numbers in Congress. Maybe getting his policies through has been worth it for them in the long run though.

I don't think Republicans are going to allow it. I don't think the Tea Partiers among them will allow such a jesture. Republicans do not want to be seen as compromising period much less be shown in the presence of a Democrat.

I noticed how Boehner didn't attend the memorial service in Tucson. Instead he chose to go to a Republican fund raiser.

    Amen.

Despite all the hoopla, I don't think there are many Tea Partiers among the Republicans, Joe.

Was waiting for you to mention this. Like clockwork, you are.

Well then, how many are there? They seemed to have enough to get their candidates elected in several states. And whenever a Republican official offends them they have to go on the limbaugh show and apologize to limbaugh. So what makes you think there are not that many Tea Partiers?
Is there a point here or are you spamming?

Joe, has Limbaugh sent you a gold plated mug yet?
From your posts it seems like you must listen to him every day.

I don't know how many there are. You appear to know more about them than anyone, despite your obvious hatred. You tell me.

My impression is they only got a handful of candidates elected -- Paul and Bachman being among the most prominent -- and saw several more -- Angle and the Witch -- while others went down in flames. So what's the number, Joe? How many Tea Party candidates are in the new Congress? Can it really be that many?

I know none of the new Republicans from my state were Tea Parties, even if they tried to give an ear to those folks to get their votes. Found this on ABC:

Though calling people like Perry in Texas and Demint in SC Tea Party seems kind of a stretch...

I do listen to him and others whenever I get in the car. You have two options in the car, listen to music or listen to talk radio. And it matters little what time of day, they are always on.

Limbaugh used to be fun to listen to when he was legitimately pickiing on Dems. But then he decided he was going to be the Republican mouthpiece. That is when he took a turn for the worse.

It used to be fun to pick out his errors in logic. But that got old. Then he started making stuff up. But he and his kind dominate talk radio these days. I think he is even on some FM stations.

So was there a point? Yes I do hate the Tea Party and its leaders. I hate what they have done and continue to do. I do not however hate the honest and open (non fanatic) Tea Partier that has been misled.

You made the statement not me. I just asked you to support your reasoning.

The last survey I saw said that some 23 percent of the population thinks Sarah Palin would be a good president. And since she is one of the active Tea Party leaders, appearing at Tea Party rallies across the nation, that is probably a good estimate.

Twenty-three percent of the population is not a small number in my view. Limbaugh is reported to have 8 million Americans a week listen into his radio show. And then there are the millions of others who listen and watch various other right wing/Tea Party radio and TV. I think their influence far exceeds their actual size.
Well we shall see their influence in the coming days. The Republican Party has a problem now that it has control of the House. It has to govern if they are going to keep their big financial supporters and that requires working with Democrats. If they work with the Democrats they are in danger of alienating the Tea Partiers. It will be a tough act for them. I am looking forward to seeing how they handle it.

This is a great idea. Every Republican needs a Democratic "speech buddy" so they don't act like a dickhole.

Will one of the Republicans stand up this year and yell, LIAR again as President Obama speaks?

I've explained to you before that there are many Tea Partiers who do not fit your -- or the Media's -- depiction of them. You don't listen.

    Oh, bullshit.

You made a statement that the "the Tea Partiers among" the Republicans would not allow something to happen. That directly implies there are enough Tea Partiers among the Republicans to influence major party decisions. Having made that claim, you are bound to defend it with some kind of appreciation of their numbers and power. Clearly, you have neither, because you write ...

So as usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm sorry, but did you just cop to listening to the person you accuse everyone else of agreeing with? Jesus...

Sorry, but none of this makes even the slightest sense.
