Transporters makes sense when the budget doesn't allows shuttles in the said Sci-Fi series. That is why you try to FIND deserted places and cloaking is not pretty much on the same level.

Cloaks are not to the degree of transporters 1. The shield only lasted for a while and required great amount of psionic energy 2. The assessment of technology wasn't by psionic methods. It was by using mathematics for predictions using the few information available 3. Dude, universal translators....if telepathic communications ( only between espers ) are extreme, then take a good look at the translators 4. You point is? I won't be on that much, my parents are making study extra hard ( I already study extremely hard, but this will be overdrive, it is a bit hard but I think it will do me good hopefully ). I have to finish stuff assigned by deadlines or I get grounded ( 1 week per day overdue for grade nine, it becomes 2 in grade 10, 3 in grade 11, and 4 in grade 12 ). Well so now there are basically two things in my life besides the essentials......tennis and academia with a element of music ( our tennis team sucks, it is funny and sad how I have the best and fastest shots and I am only in grade 9, our band is pretty good though ).
