Documentary after documentary continue to measure thing in a very abstract form.

As long as two football field, as much water as to fill one swimming pool a second. WTF

From nation to nation football field are different, and swimming pools???

Please if your creating a documentary why not just give us a measure in, feet, meters, litters, kgs.

As heavy as two elephants, long as a jumbo jet, could fill the grand canyon, higher then the Eiffel tower... Please these things mean nothing to me.

    Just having a bitch...

But people find it easier to visualise a football field, don't they? It's less abstract than, say, "50 metres"* (which necessitates holding hands apart with the comment "that's about a metre, so 50 of them is from here to... that wall there maybe. No THAT wall, not that one".

    * F*cked if I know how long a football field is, but 50 metres is an Olympic swimming pool length - a bloody long way underwater.

PS your post was as angry as 13.5 wasps.

Footy pitches (in the UK at least) vary in size

But as Dyw said, it's a visualisation thing.

    I never knew that.
Good job I avoid them assiduously.
But they are sort of-ish the same length though, aren't they?

When you're talking about 25 metres, 50 metres (or whatever) does a 1 metre difference matter much? (With reference to the variation in footy pitches).

This post is as interesting as 3/4 of a bag of sugar and as informative as 2-5/8 tablespoons of treacle sponge.

Bit early to get too technical but yes they're all roughly the same size.

In Australia football is Aussie rules 150m field. Soccer (football to the Europeanized) is 110m long, and football in the USA is I have no idea. 100m is the same all over the world.

Guess I have to get about some more to relate to all that is common around this world, many times bigger then an ants dick.

For Football (Soccer hate that word!)...

The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m).

Well, if we are talking american, the length of the pitch is 59 feet + however far behind the plate the catcher has his glove.

Unless we are talking about fields, but that might also be a hated word.

If you say that a swimming pool holds a million gallons (or liters) of water, how many people would have any idea how big it is? I just pulled that number out of the air, I couldn't tell you if that pool would be small, average, large, or ridiculous.

If you use metric units no one in America except a scientist will understand it. And if you use the British system only Americans and older Brits will.

I'm quite happy when they say something is "as big as four city blocks," or "as deep as the Grand Canyon," or "as heavy as a diesel locomotive," or "as hot as Death Valley at high noon in August," or "as far away as Alpha Centauri."

I'd get tired of hearing the same old way of measuring stuff using meters, feet, inches and so on. I like to hear different ways in which to think about whatever it is someone might be describing if they used different ways to describe it.

Bah! What's wrong with rods, poles and perches as measures of length? Make the chain a compulsory unit!
Or, better yet, re-introduce the liniya, piad and arshin...

I can't make my mind whether these were useful or just a firkin nuisance.

    How far is five clicks?

Five times the distance of one click.

But that varies. Sometimes it goes *thunk* instead of *click* and I never know whether to ignore that or count it as 2.3 clicks.
Or did you mean klick (= kilometre)?
