I enjoy all sorts of SciFi, fantasy, ghost stories, stories about ESP, et cetera. I am very disappointed in the SciFi TV Channel for all the phoney reality shows. There is Ghost Hunters & two spin-offs. There is Fact or Fantasy. There is some show with a Psychic. There is (was?) Scare Tactics. There are probably some others. I hate the above type of show. Even if they had good acting, good directing, et cetera, I would still hate them. The non-SciFi reality shows are also a pain. They are nothing like reality. They have paid performers, a director, & a script like any Fictional TV show. I wonder how many viewers consider these shows to be Reality. There should be disclaimers to warn children & naive adults that these are really fiction pretending to be real life activities. BTW: The SciFi scare Tactics show has to be absolutely phoney. A person put into some of those scenarios might have good grounds for a lawsuit. A person with a weak heart could have an attack. A person with a fragile mind could be sent over the edge. If I were put into some of those situations & believed the scenario to be real, I would be likely to take violent action to help some victim or protect myself. How would the producers like to have one of their actors seriously hurt or even killed? That they might not mind, but the lawsuits might hurt badly.
Problem with that is that many people believe just about anything. Shows like that don't help the situation. And everybody seems to be o.k. with that. Occasionally you'll hear "o well, it's your choice to believe that crap if you like to", but nobody seems to think that these symptoms are a sign of a (rather big) problem. Or maybe it's me who thinks that it's sad that this is what mankind is doing to itself.
I could be wrong (too lazy to check) but I think Scare Tactics helped launch Kevin Butler (PS3 ads) into the mainstream.
