Sure, do that. Make sure to capture the image and you can claim it as YOURS. That is not what your doing when downloading from internet.
Internet is different. An old lady puts on her page by her senior citizens home a photo of her dog, grandchildren, re-sized Man Ray, and her fist car.. How do you propose to sort millions of collections of this kind?
If you see a beautiful photo on the internet and you re-photograph it by clicking the save button you go (virtually) through similar process the photographer (in the real word) went through when he/she made the picture. You get similar measure of thrill and intensity which creating art brings to the creator of a masterpiece... But OK it is a virtual event you are a virtual artist in the virtual world of internet.
Sure, some sites might let you save it. But if you use it in any way, then you are doing something illegal because you have not gotten the permission of the owner of the image to do something with said image. You might not think they will find out, but believe me, if you use someone else's photo from the net without their permission and attempt to make profit from it, you will eventually get caught. Now you might get a thrill out of clicking save to d/l someone else's work and that's just you. Imagine the thrill you would get if you took your camera and went outside and took photos yourself.. Indeed, there is a "first layer photography", one takes his/her camera and goes into the streets and fields and makes pictures of all that beauty around..and subsequently these photos are put/posted on the web (1st layer of photography) then comes the second layer photography which is clicking on photos on the web or re-photographing the photographed world (as I choose to call it) this is a kind of meta-photography, and possibly still higher levels meta-meta-photography can be reached... photos in higher layer(s) of internet photography (higher than the basement of photography - the real world) are selected groups of photos (you won't get into these groups unless you pass through the first-basic layer) This meta-photography layer has (on average) higher quality levels than the basement groups. It is a privilege to be a meta-photographer Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I have stripped all posters' names from this thread and handed it in as my dissertation. You don't know the absolute thrill and intensity of creation that I felt.
I do not feel that if you copy a image from anywhere and ONLY use it for your own enjoyment ,like making an enlargement and hanging it in your house,l then there's really nothing that is wrong with that IMHO. To many though even that is copyright infringment.
You are allowed copying or Producing any Product for your own Personal use. copyright infringement occurs if you produce a product to sell or make a profit.
Untrue. Otherwise ripping a friend's DVD would be legal, because I'd do it for my personal use. Also untrue. For example you are only allowed to copy a fixed (10% IIRC) portion of a book, not the full thing, regardless of whether it is for personal use or not. Copyright is as much to protect potential sales as much as anything. I.e. if you have a bootleg then that is a loss of potential revenue to whoever does hold the copyright, because, owning a bootleg, you won't buy a genuine copy.
Potential sale concept is a Fata Morgana issue: EG.: A student with a small allowance cannot buy the stuff he/she downloads from the Web (he/she just cannot afford it)... His/her having the protected stuff cost no one no sale and nobody has less due to internet downloads while some have more..
Yeah that's the excuse people make when they steal something. So if you can't afford it don't get it. If you're using "I can't afford it" as an excuse then why shouldn't those who can afford to buy the goods in question also rip it off and spend the saved money on something else? "Well, yeah, I do earn $2 mill a year but if I actually paid for all the DVDs and CDs I want then I wouldn't be able to buy that Merc I was looking at..."
If downloading remixed stuff is a criminal act then we have a big problem: the majority of european (and possibly american and other) population(s) is acting as criminals (downloading remix) and if we should should put these criminals behind the bars it poses a problem how can minority of population imprison the majority? Now I got an absurd idea...is it possible that we have decent, hard working people surfing the web and bad/outdated laws which (largely unsuccessfully) criminalise normal/natural acting (eg sharing stuff)...?
If the remixed stuff is copyrighted (or is remixed without permission from copyrighted stuff) then that would be criminal, neh? So simply because the majority (got any actual figures for that?) does it makes it somehow not illegal any more? Or is it possible that people are sharing stuff illegally and ignoring the law because they aren't interested in the fact that it's illegal? "I want it, so I'm going to have it".
Do you download movies illegally? (This poll is anonymous) Hell yeah! I download any movie I want to watch. 56.2% (833 votes) Nope, I will never download a copyrighted movie! 10.8% (160 votes) Sometimes I will but not usually. 23.5% (348 votes) I have no idea how to download movies but I would if I could. 2.8% (41 votes) I have no idea how to download movies but I wouldn't even if I could. 4.3% (64 votes) Other: 2.5% (37 votes) Total Votes: 1,483 from polldaddy.com (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-movies-illegally-makeuseof-polls/)
And? How does this make your point? I won't even mention that this is a poll about movies (as opposed to "remixes" [whatever they are]). The poll is filled in by a non-specified group of recipients (location is...?:shrugPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!. How does this show anything, other than that some people will admit that they I.e. they fully recognise that it is illegal - which is what I stated in my previous post. And what percentage of internet users is represented by those who actually bothered to take the poll? "Acceptable" and "legal" are not synonymous. Fail. Maybe you could try that argument when caught speeding... "But officer, all those other guys were doing it!"
I"m confused, what if I take a photo of stuff but an ads in it or somethin like a building? Wouldn't people copyright the way a building looks? or the ad? So how can anyone photography anything then!
