Bobby Jindal Signs 'Guns-In-Church' Bill Into Law

If you're like most Americans, there's probably been a time in your life when you've been sitting in church, listening to a particularly ennui-inducing homily or enduring another warbly version of "Holy Holy Holy" and thought, "Man! I could really reach for some steel right now, squeeze off a few rounds, and let these fools know what the score is!" Well, in Louisiana, Governor Bobby Jindal has recently signed into law a measure that would allow you to at least feel comforted by the presence of your gun in the house of the Lord.

Significant of the state of faith in Louisiana, I suppose. Just another reason to stay away.

I have no problem with allowing concealed weapons in houses of worship, but I think it should require the consent of the "owner" (for lack of better description) of the establishment.

So what exactly was the law before? Was it illegal to carry a gun in church, even if the pastor/priest/messiah was okay with it?

Will churches now be forced to allow weapons even if they don't want them? If so, I don't agree with that.

    Not In the catholic church..

did you see the armory the Vatican has?

But The church is a rightfully place of peace and supposed to be respected as neutral ground at all times.

You can be armed, but if you respect religion you should respect this wish of our lord. (To be neutral)

Unfortunately some people don't respect it though *Sighs*

    Tell that to the victims of the;

St. Joseph’s Mo, Clifton Church Shooting

    MARYVILLE, Ill. First Baptist Church

    Maryville Ill. Metro East Church

    Knoxville, Tenn., Unitarian church......................

But what good is neutrality if it isn't respeceted by others, neutrality is enforced by the ability to enforce it.

    So what is new?

Yes, not only churches, schools, post offices, anywhere there is a free fire zone because of gun control legislation.

The most batshit insane idea i've ever heard. Believe it or not, they're actually trying to allow people to carry guns on school grounds. More guns, not less is their answer to everything. However, they're against carrying night sticks at polling stations, that's where they draw the line. Gun in churches, schools, bars, but no night-sticks at polling stations.

I never said I agreed with allowing this.

But as far as the church is concerned there allowed, but them rules are ancient like back when we still used swords, and sheilds..ancient or maybe older..

I do. it clashes with them as a place of worship. not to mention the fact places of worship have long been used as places of sanctuary this just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth

Concealed carry was explicitly forbidden in any place of worship. This will change that, although the stipulations one must satisfy to do so are still pretty restricting - requiring the CCW holder be part of a "security force" with additional training to that end, for example. The article in the OP is kind of misleading in that it suggests that just anyone with a LA CCW permit can carry inside their church. That does not appear to be the case at all.

Honestly, I'm not sure why this is even an issue. Most states' CCW I'm aware of have no such restrictions, so I'm curious why Louisiana bothered to say "btw dudes no carrying in churches, k?"

Try to imagine carrying a M240B concealed and rethink the point of this question.

I guess I'm not. I've only been to three church services in my life. The last one was 45 years ago.

Interesting achievement for our first Indian-American governor.

There is be a push for him to run as VP or Pres in 2012. I think, if he can turn around Louisiana by 2016 - he has a chance then....whoever comes in 2012 will fail.

Guns should be allowed unless the private property owner disallows them- that is their right. But publicly guns should be allow, or shall I say must be allowed as it is a constitutional issue.

    Peace be unto you

No, idiots who don't understand historical context and have no common sense cause too many issues.

Also, this talk of changing the constitution sounds familiar...
