I seem to remember that doing compound exercises such as squats will affect you all over because they tell the body to release testosterone...Does this apply for a female? I'm not worried about looking too much like a roided up mutant, I'm just curious..

Females respond to exercise differently to males, unless they take steroids. For example, they develop leg muscles that are long and sleek (and sexy) rather than lumpy as males do.

Female body builders who do not take steroids end up with a slim waist, and trim figures without lumpy muscles. Just trim, sexy muscles on trim and sexy arms and legs.

Women who exercise get my vote!

I'm sure it does affect a woman's testosterone levels, though perhaps to a lesser extent. Testosterone/estrogen are really the main difference between men and women. Practically everything else is trivial, that's why it's possible to change gender.

As you probably know, testosterone is largely responsible for libido, for women and men alike. I seem to remember reading about red-haired women having higher libido than others and scientists suggested the cause is higher testosterone levels.

I recall reading that olympic athletes are known to engage in tons of sex before the end of the closing ceremonies of the olympics. The article characterizes it as a hedonistic release from a life of hard discipline. But really, you've got to figure olympic athletes, men and women, are both brimming with testosterone and ready to fuck just about anything.

Maybe the women already had naturally high testosterone levels, but all the conditioning almost certainly has a big impact.

Maybe those oversexed women had all been injecting themselves.

I think sex drive is about more than just testosterone, though. My friend has PCOS which causes her to produce excessive testosterone, but she says she has almost no libido.

Does she have the typical symptoms of high testosterone? Just because your body produces a lot of testosterone doesn't mean the body processes it. Some women who have androgen insensitivity syndrome have tons of testosterone in the body, but they're very feminine because the body doesn't process it. In fact, since their body can't process it, they're more feminine than most women, despite having much more testosterone than normal.

But yeah, you're right, there are other things. But testosterone, I'm sure is a big component. How are your pullups doing? Still at seven?

Ah yeah, thanks for pointing that out

No, she doesn't have symptoms of high testosterone. So probably like you said, she has high levels but doesn't use it.

Slightly improved, I can easily do 10 now...yeah, I know. I take it I don't have high testosterone, I've all the physical strength of a dying moth.

Wow according to Wikipedia, estrogen actually reduces muscle mass.

And I wonder why I am weak as a rag doll no matter how heavily I work out...

Ten is actually pretty good. Most women I know can't do even one. And I'm not even talking about fatties, but good looking women who are in good shape. They just don't have upperbody strength. How much do you weigh?

For whatever reason, I'm unusually strong at pullups. I have powerful arms and back. A few months back I weighed about 90 kgs. I'd stuff 25 kgs weights in my backpack, put it on and then do 13 pullups. Without any extra weight I could do about 23.

Lol, I only weigh 50kg now. Used to be 55kg but I've somehow lost a good bit of fat...

That is because your friend is a female. A woman’s libido is not nearly as dependent on hormonal factors as a man’s libido is. This is why the market is flooded with medications and drugs intended to cure sexual dysfunctions in men, but not in women.

Testosterone plays a great role in libido, but little is it known that dihydrotestosterone is just as important. Testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) through an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase (types I and II). DHT is a much more potent hormone than testosterone; men who lack DHT due to 5-alpha reductase deficiency are born with undeveloped genitalia and never grow typical male hair over their bodies or suffer from male pattern baldness. Interestingly, their bodies develop like other male adults, and their testosterone levels are no different. This illustrates to us that testosterone is very important in building muscle mass and developing male genitalia, although dihydrotestosterone is more prominent in other roles normally attributed to testosterone. Women who have unusually high levels of DHT will develop secondary sex characteristics seen in men (voice deepening, facial/body hair growth, sometimes hair loss on scalp).

Simply put, the serum concentrations of dihydrotestosterone in men correlate directly with how often they ejaculate: the higher the frequency of ejaculation, the greater the levels of DHT. This is why men can lower their libido by restraining from ejaculation - the less they orgasm, the lower their drive to orgasm again will be.

Yes, and conversely, testosterone builds muscle mass. Men who abstain from sex experience peak levels of testosterone after seven to ten days of non-ejaculation, after which time their testosterone levels peak. Men who allow this testosterone to increase through abstaining from sexual activities experience higher levels of aggression and muscle growth. Yes, muscle growth will occur even without working out.

Really? I didn't know that. I always thought women relied on it too but are more sensitive to the small amount of testosterone we do have...

What else regulates female sex drive, do you know?

I think I have some female version of that going on...I do notice that a certain time of month, a bit after ovulation I think, I can easily lift more than I usually do, and I definitely feel more aggressive...

Holy fuck, that IS impressive. Granted you are a male but still most guys can't do 23 pullups. Respect

A lot of what affects the female libido is psychological, or emotional. A lot of females experience little or no sexual desire until the first time they fall in love. Their love object then stimulates the sexual desire.

A guy will feel sexual desire with almost any woman, within certain limits. A woman will often experience the opposite of sexual desire when approached by a guy she does not like. As they say : it is all in the mind.

Yes indeed. It may not have been your experience, but all women are different from all other women.

In my whole existence, many years ago when single, of trying (generally ineffectually) to be a Casanova, I only once met a woman whose sex drive was almost exactly the same as a man. That is, powerful, even when there was no romantic interest in a potential sex partner, indiscriminate, and urgent. As in " I want sex. I want it badly. I don't care who with. And I want it right now, this instant. Forget the foreplay. Just get your clothes off." Not entirely unexpectedly, this woman (who was young and good looking) was somehow extremely popular with lots of men.

Among more 'normal' women there was enormous variation from one woman to the next in how her sex drive operated, but inevitably it was stronger if her sex partner was also her love object.

And I have met more than a few women who did not develop any strong sex drive until after meeting a guy for whom they had strong romantic feelings.

Holy shit. I wish my sex drive was situational like that. It seems to always hit the stratosphere about noon, as well as after heavy exercise or caffeine....

We instantly see a difference to the male sex drive, which varies not. A guy wants sex 24 hours a day. Just give him a willing woman.....

Lol, I'd have sex with a willing guy any time of day, no problem, so long as he was nice looking. It is most intense at around 12.00-12:30 though. Hormones doing weird shit I guess...
