An unlimited world of music downloading possibilities and I always draw a blank when I think of what to download. I HATE that! Everyone post a fairly detailed description of a song you would reccomend to everyone out there to download... Any genre, anything goes, just tell us all why it's SO GOOD that we should all dowload it! If we get this list going pretty long, I'll be a happy guy. Common everybody, there's got to be at least one song you think everyone should hear! Don't limit yourself to one song by any means...

Any song by an New York underground rapper called Immortal Technique. My favorites include "No Mercy" and "The Poverty of Philosophy" and "Beef and Broccoli", but trust me ALL his songs are amazing. He has such intricate rhymes with such little details that have such deep meanings its mind blowing. You definitely need to listen to these songs numerous times. He has amazing beats using piano's and violins to back up the snare and bass drum hits.

He might be hard to find, but anything you can get will leave you amazed. If you find "Dance with the Devil" beware to be blown away.

    "Catharsis" by Anthrax

Anthrax really never struck me a very good band, nothing against them in particular though... but then, I heard this song. It's a high energy rock song with everything you need to rock out hard. There's just something about the chorus that brings it all together in a really addictive way. This is the kind of song you can put on repeat for hours and actually come out of it with a better appreciation for the song instead of loathing it. I first heard it on a compilation cd my friend burnt for a road trip we went on, and whenever this song plays, I'm brought back to that trip. The sun rising early in the morning, it's hot as hell, we're going just a little too fast for comfort, and I reach over to turn up the volume on this massive tune. Its just one of those songs that doesn't leave you.

    Tool

    Sober
    Eon Blue Apocalypse
    Lateralus
    Parabola

The videos are amazing, and the lyrics are like poetry. However, it might not appeal at the very first listen ...maybe even after a couple of times. I know it took me fairly long to even like Tool, to get used to their seemingly random and monotonous tones. But the bass lines are really groovy, and the percussion is great. I'm not sure what genre though .. I just stuck it under Alternative, lol. It's not exactly upbeat, but it does have a good pace. I suggest listening to it while doing something at first, so it can just be background noise. Then, after getting the feel, you can listen to it just for appreciation. And check out the videos, they're always interesting, even if a bit morbid and disturbing. Here's a picture from their video "Parabola":

DaMenace is SERIOUS. That guy is fucking beyond words.

Well, I have too much music. Ill just say "King Missile - The Sandbox." These guys make the most interpretive music. Download every scrap that you can get from them. "Cheesecake Truck" is also a classic. Sometimes I wonder why nobody knows about them...

    Sigur Ros - Nothing Song

If I were in a different mood I'd no doubt post a different song, but for the mood I'm in now this is the song I'll recomend. Very atmospheric.

I've noticed a trend. it seems that computer oriented people are usually big tool fans. is this some kind of ploy by Tool to get their music heard?

lol, I am opposite Slacker, I don't go on the computer a whole lot nowadays, but I'm beginning to develop a whole "thing" for Tool.
That was my favourite song for the longest time.

Give us the lay down on those songs if you don't mind, one of the things I'd like to get going in this thread is info on the songs, why they mean what they do to you... perhaps conversations will branch from that... could get very interesting if we want it to. But maybe I just need to get a life, lol.

Anything from The Beastie Boys "The In Sound from the Way Out."

This record is a collection of Beastie Boys instrumentals that are really just out there. Some are somewhat predictable, but still interesting, and others are just mind blowing.

    Hmm...I can't seem to find a tracklisting.

    Tool + A Perfect Circle

    <center><img src=http://www.aperfectcircle.com/images/homelogo.jpg></center>
    Judith
    Hollow
    Orestes (quite like Tool!)
    3 Libras

Maynard from Tool's been working with APC, so check out A Perfect Circle as well. Their music is a lot more like your typical rock today (ie. words!) but you can hear the influence (especially in "Orestes"), and it might be easier to start with APC before going on to Tool. Here's a bit from an earlier interview (about 2000 when APC first came out):

Anyway here are some from stuff I've got in my car:

relative ways - ...and you will know by the trail of dead : The last 30 seconds will give you goosebumps.

mayday - thingy: Great drummer, great boy/girl vocals.

pancake cleaner - swirlies: Monkey rock.

Burning airlines give you so much more - Brian Eno: 30 years ago but still fresh sounding.

Can't believe I forgot to mention

    Jeff Buckley.

His songs Grace and cover of Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah are wonderful. My friend introduced Jeff Buckley to me, and he's good so far. I'll have to borrow the album "Grace" from her though.

(BTW, the songs are not Christian music.)

Re: Can't believe I forgot to mention

Jeff Buckley and Leonard Cohen are both so great! I think its called "tower of song".. or something... GREAT Cohen tune. VEry great. Mmm mmm good. And Jeff Buckley, well all I can say is, DAMN, when that guy sings, he means it. I feel alot of power and emotion from his voice. I'm going to go download tower of song right now. Is that what its called? I'll figure it out...
