I'll start a thread and hope that a mod stickies it. The OP will be edited to allow for the guidlines to be posted there, so people don't have to mingle through all the stuff. My second post will hold what I propose as the starting guidlines.

Lets just make sure there is a lot of input from everyone; I don't want this to be something that is chosen by a few people.

Perhaps we should VM or PM the many users of this thread to make them aware?

But the only rule that is really needed is: don't be ass, don't twist someones words into propaganda and make them sound like THEY are crazy (yeah, you know who you are...), don't display rants as if you have an inferiority complex; and if you don't have a worthy rebuttle at the time you are responding to someone, just shut your mouth and find a good rebuttle later. Period. End of story.

Yeah, but those are so basic. Have you checked out the Constitution of Sci Debating yet? We're basically trying to establish guidelines.

We're not really debating anymore until we can get everything under control. You can refer to The Constitution of Sci Debating for our progress.

Haven't we already set up all the rules we really need?

Not really. We need to suggest them, vote on them, put them into a big document in the thread, and then we can start again.

We need more input from you guys! There have only been seven people, besides myself, giving suggestions. I know there are more of you out there and I want to stress how important it is to get everyone involved in this!

What does every one think of this as the Time and Setting for this debate: The proponents of each universe in contention should select the pinnacle era of their side. The original all vs. all creates too many chaotic regressions and having current eras creates way too many advantages for certain sides (e.g., ST gains a steep advantage on SW with the upheaval of the Empire's fall).

Secondly, I think we need to come to terms with the canon. This is not SDN or ST-vs-SW or any other external site. We need to agree on the canon here and make it official.

well the only disputes about canon so far have been from those ranting about SW, and bashing George Lucas.

Come to think of it I had posted questions about certain Star Trek books and whether they are canon, but nobody ever said anything

Well that's because Lucas was very vague on Canon. "As long as it doesn't contradict the movies" isn't a vary detailed description. No offense to him.

Ehh, that depends, what is determined Canon in Star Trek? If it's similiar to Wars (as in doesn't contradict on-screen stuff) then i'm guessing (emphasis) that books are ok.

i see. So I guess since the Crucible books work in between the actual events in ST it is canon.
Those three books would make amazing films.

most (if not ALL) the EU is perfectly canon in this case, because the books, novels, etc are all seriously checked by Lucasarts so it won't contradict the movies.
that's the only reason i ever used EU material in my debates.

If you really believe that, than I feel sorry for you...

Lucas doesn't care about the books... he's said so himself. It's a separate universe. And there is PLENTY in the books contradicted by the movies...

Personally, I vote we leave the entire debate at this:

Star Wars is the superior action ride, while Star Trek is the superior science ride.
