something about paying thousands of dollars, getting implants, getting bones drilled, or reshaped, getting skin filled up, cut off, moved around, getting your fat sucked out...

followed by putting up with a month of recovery... for what?

so that people like you more?

have some self respect. cosmetic surgery is for cowards who just can't be themselves.

unless you got in some accident, or had severe health problems which completely disfigured you... i say its a waste of money.

if you are looking for love and attention, get if from someone who actually likes you for who you are... because physical attraction always gets boring no matter how pretty you look. and if someone just likes you for your looks, that usually wont last long anyways.

Depends on the scars I guess. I have a faint one across the bridge of my nose from a trampolining accident, never bothered me when I was younger, and it was more noticeable, gave me a natural scowl. Now I'm older, it just looks like a wrinkle, and fits in with the emerging 'laughter lines'.

The rest I'd leave too, they are like badges of honour. But if they made me self conscious, yeah, I'd get them fixed.

Yes. I have had two procedures and my wife has had three. I think it is one of the greatest things ever. Why not?

I dunno, Mick. I just don't have any peace about it. Yes I will think "why doesn't she fix that huge nose/whatever" when I see big imperfections, but I have seen way too many horror stories to ever even consider it.

You have to go to a reputable doctor. I have had hair transplant surgery and botox. Both, IMO, have been well worth the money. I could not stand seeing a receding hairline and crows feet. I have no regrets on either.

Well, from an evolutionary perspective, it would seem that this tendency to "rate" attractiveness has a lot to do with our desire to pass down certain traits to our offspring.

Assuming you want to have kids, what's the protocol for finding a suitable mate? Should one carry around before and after photos to make sure no one's disappointed when the baby pops out?

It can often be about how people feel inwardly about themselves, not just about what other people think. I have a friend from North Africa who had herself circumcised, but she didn't do it so people would like her better (in fact people give her a hard time about it when they find out). She did it because it meant a lot to her from a cultural, religious, and personal veiwpoint.

LOL, I have wondered that about ones that do have extreme makeovers. Their off-springs would definitely not look anything like them.

I see a lot of people with a lot of cosmetic surgery when I am in CA. I often wonder why they don't fix their teeth. I think a nice smile is so much more important than blowfish lips.

LOL, I am actually headed back out there in June to Tijuana for a complete teeth makeover. This time I am getting veneer caps. My dentist there is excellent and is a 1/5 the cost of American dentists.

a person should have the ability not to feel bad about the way they look regardless of whether they are judging themselves or people are judging them.

the whole notion of going through cosmetic surgery in order to find comfort is absurd.

its just way too extreme. accept who you are and move on, giving in to this fad only makes it worst.

the risk isn't worth the trade-off. I prefer to limit my cosmetic upgrades to photoshop.
This may change when i get older, much older. I don't fear aging at all but at some point we become a human coat rack and our skin just hangs down from the top. hopefully in 50 years it will be easier to just zap it back into place!

On the other hand. some people are terribly homely, and you can't pretend it doesn't effect every aspect of their life, regardless of how wonderful they are. I wouldn't hold it against someone if they chose to have a little work done, as long as it doesn't get too vain...
