I've read a lot of stories and watched a lot of documentaries about Bigfoot. Personally, it's incredibly hard for me to believe they exist for various reasons. But I must say, this story is very convincing, that's because it shares a lot of similarities with other eyewitness accounts. Also, I remember watching one documentary where the US Army listed "Sasquatch" as a protected species in some national park areas. Once pressed on it they recanted an insisted it was a joke. Imagine for second if the Government came out and said, "yes they exist". I can't imagine how many hunting parties would form to catch them, so much so it would definitely cause major disturbances at national parks around country. Lastly, every culture, even indigenous ones with little contact with the modernized world, describe these things pretty similarly.

Some New Yorker did a long article on it years back.
"Why you never see baby pigeons."

This baby pigeon, Columba Beckettsia, was found in The House of Commons perching on a steel rafter.
The droppings cleared from her nest filled three wheelbarrows

Here's a snapshot of the baby pigeons I encountered. They were hiding in the bushes, sitting on some sort of makeshift platform made out of twigs and stuff, hoping to stay undetected.

This thread caught my eye. I live in the mountains of Virginia. Been here all my life. I wouldn't begin to swear to Bigfoot lurking around here. I've heard stories, and I have a book of Va folklore and legends that indicates something like one, but...

In 1985 I did as I had a done numerous times. Camped out in the mountains in the GW national forest. Knew every animal in the woods, and never worried about thing. But this one night left me fearful enough I never went back in the woods at night again for a very long time. Don't know what it was, don't care to find out. But that sound was NOT a normal sized Virginia critter. I'm not about to suggest what it was or what it wasn't, but boy it had LUNGS. I know it was animated, it was moving along the ridge above me, and fast.

Never had another weird experience after that, can't recall one before it. Life goes on.

Good question Orleander. They are highly intelligent with a gutteral language and so there isn't any reason to think that they wouldn't have a kind of religion and even a belief in the afterlife. There's a controversial case where a 'mini-human' was found encased in a cave and appears to have been skull-crushed from behind and then entombed never to be found..

That's sort of the problem isn't it? For all my years in the woods I haven't found so much as a dead coon in the forest more than 100 yards from any road. Nature has a way of disposing of things quickly. Once you get way out there, finding dead large anything becomes impossible.

People keep saying produce a dead one. Why haven't they been found? Uh... feel free to join me. I haven't met a hunter or fisherman yet who ever found a dead bear in the woods.

Interesting topic, any way you slice it. Do I believe it? Maybe a small percentage of me thinks it's very possible. Survivalist (like me) can live in the wilderness indefinitely, why can't a pretty slick monkey?

I tend to agree with your mindset BlueRidge. I've tracked and spotted a big cat in my local area, which is a small peninsula in England. It's dead easy for a smart animal to stay hidden, even right under our noses in extreme cases.

Big cats is a new problem here. A proven species for these parts. Yet the known fact is that the eastern cougar/mountain lion has been extinct for about 100 years at least. However, in the last 10 years (In Virginia) cougar sightings are becoming common enough that the state is looking into it. Released pets, or escaped from zoos. Who cares!? Once they breed and take hold, there'll be no getting rid of them. And who ever found a dead one in the wilderness? Raise your hand.

The UK had a change of law in the 1970's which meant there was a large scale release of dangerous pets into the countryside. They aren't a big problem though and the police etc won't bother with reports. It's the flying cryptids that are attacking flocks of sheep that is the real problem. The alien/ufo redtop headlines confuses the issue unfortunately.
