    Day-dreams ?.

I could really use some advice, I often get these day-dreams, I have no idea what triggers them they just come and go whenever and I am fully awake when they occur. In these day-dreams I find myself being hurt by an unknown person, I am usually being shot in these day-dreams and they have really started to effect my life. The other night I was laying in bed and I heard a noise in the living room, now at the time everyone was asleep except for me so I rushed into the living room and it was simply my mother sneezing. For those few minutes my mind was flooded with thoughts and my heart raced as I thought it's finally happening these day-dreams I get have finally come true. I just don't know what to do or how to get my life back, I've always been a responsible person and have never been in trouble law-wise I don't hang out with people who own guns I myself don't own a gun I cannot figure out why I am plagued with these vivid day-dreams.

If you have an advice or anything that could help I'm listening.

It could be a sign that something major is going to affect your life, with a sudden impact. What you are experiencing could be a preparation for that. The images are probably just symbolic of that future event.

Sounds a lot like PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Have you ever been threatened by a gun or ever had your life threatened in any way by another person?

If not, this could also be General Anxiety. Its not at all uncommon to imagine frightening events with general anxiety. Anxiety can make you feel like something terrible is about to happen. Its not uncommon to imagine some frightening event and to latch onto it. When I came down with anxiety a few years ago, I used to constantly imagine myself falling off of a tall building. Even though I had never in my life come close to falling off a building, nor did I ever find myself on tall buildings. This kind of fantasy is also very common for someone approaching middle age.

First and foremost, don't let it bother you! This is easier said than done. Try to take it in stride. Allow the feelings to run their course. Don't fight them, but try not to let them rule you. Often times, these fantasies or feelings are rooted in something much deeper. Look into cognitive behavioral therapy and see if you can get to the root of what it is that is triggering these events. Are you currently experiencing a large amount of stress in your life? Are you about to make a major decision in your life?

Spend some time in contemplation, and meditation. I strongly suggest seeing a doctor. Talk to your medical doctor first and see what he suggests. He/she may want you to see a therapist.

Anxiety can make you feel like you are loosing your mind! I know that first hand! But keep in mind that you are not loosing you mind. People who go crazy, or are schizophrenic etc have no idea that they are loosing it. If you find yourself thinking "Am I going crazy?" Then you can take comfort in knowing that just by asking that question, you are not going crazy. Being crazy robs you of the ability to recognize that you are, well, going crazy!

Again, talk to your doctor. In the meantime, relax, spend some time with family and loved ones, and try not to dwell.

usually a day dream is a controllable thing, imagination and all, if your day dreaming about being hurt then there is something going on in your life that is causing you distress, if you know what it is you need to take steps to remedy the situation, if you don't you probably should seek counseling. if nothing else talk to someone close to you, they may have insights to what could be troubling you.

So your day-dreams are becoming more and more merged with reality?

It's easy to assume the trend will continue, gradually making you go insane. That is probably not the case, but it is in your best interests to seek professional help, or at least to find out if there is a name for your case other than overreaction.

In the rare case that you have dementia you will want to seek a professional anyway. And in any case seeing a pro will ease the burden of your worries - which are usually much worse than the actual case is.

Lastly, your one example is quite normal for most people to experience sometime in their life. A very vivid, brief hallucination is probably common, especially near sleep. If anything, what you have sounds like a case of over-sleeping, or a sleep related illness.

Does the daydream go on after you're hurt, or does it just end there? It might be useful to keep the story going and find out what happens next. It might tell you something important.

If you don't find that you are able to do that, you might try something like the Emotional Freedom Technique that will help you take control of the daydream and figure out how it fits into your life and/or keep it going longer until it makes sense. Using EFT, people have been cured of things like stuttering and arachnophobia in one session, so this sounds like a good candidate.

Check out the Emotional Freedom Technique website and ignore all the woo-woo stuff, they just go with the flow and appeal to today's market. There's nothing controversial or spiritual about it, it's just a way of getting in touch with your thoughts and feelings. Many people learn to do it by themselves, but if you can't do that you can probably get a practitioner to do a one-hour phone session for $75. One session would probably do it, or at least set you up to continue on your own. It's a lot faster and cheaper than psychotherapy and it doesn't take five years to find out whether it's working.

I learned how to do it five years ago, and I still find it helpful when something's bothering me, or when I can't figure out why I keep doing dumb shit.
