1. Make sure your keyboard is in NumLock mode.
2. Hold down the ALT key and enter the number on the numeric keypad. (Note that many laptops have a blue FN key that changes a set of keys, also with blue numbers on them and usually in the 7-8-9-U-I-O area, into a numeric keypad.)

For those who don't know, every character a system is capable of using can be represented by calling it directly via the numpad and the alt key. Including low level chars used in Assembler.

Hold down alt and randomly type in numbers, like alt+01598 is the greater than sign - > , try it. Here is alt + 01258 - ê , alt + 01974 - ¶ , alt + 1974 - ╢ , etc. There are also multiple codes for the same char, such as alt + 0182 - ¶ .

Or just open char map and it shows you the alt code for them all. Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>character map on Windows XP. The numpad keystroke is in the lower right of Charmap when a character is highlighted.

With Charmap, though, you don't need the use of a numpad. These symbols done with Charmap - ף ק ٸ ۞ ۩ ♫ ά Ө - It will copy them to your buffer for easy pasting.

Is there an 'ass cheeks' symbol I can learn to make?

 

...the fourth key from the top right...why does it look like there's "num lk" on that key? And I see some numbers in blueish colour. Those should be the ones that get activated if you click num lk.
