    Defining the 2000's:

    -Growing nationwide acceptance of marijuana
    -Alternative lifestyles in the mainstream
    -The accepted naked human body
-War for oil that never pays itself off
    -The Internet; the I-Phone
-Emergence of the realization of Global Warming

    Your ideas.

I disagree with the OP. Most Americans will not accept drugs--even marijuana. Same with alternative lifestyles. There was no war for oil. And most really good scientists agree global warming is a crock. Look at the weather. We have record-cold all over. We had one of the coldest Decembers on record.
I think more people will come to God as they realize the end is near.
I think more will become conservative after realizing the damage liberalism does to the spirit.
I think more people will give up and try to suck off the government.

i hate to break it to you sandy, but most americans are ON drugs, even marijuana, but mostly anti-depressents, birth control, antibiotics, diet pills, and a whole host of pharmaceuticals to control the disease and/or symptom du jour.

and these are, let me guess, any lifestyle other than your own?

well we're giving bush the benefit of the doubt here, because if it wasn't for oil, then it was straight up egomaniacal tyranny.

lets have those "really good" scientists ask the polar bears who are shit out of luck.

    despite your best efforts.

yes, we all know how freedom wrecks havoc on the spirit.

and i think people like you will be taking nose dives off of your penthouse balconies.

sadly she is right on one thing, aparently organised religion (especially evangalicalisium) are going to see an expansion in following. Further more the artical i was lissioing to about this suggested that because its going to be people CHOSING it it means more religious fights (at the local level and at the cultural one) and more religious interfearance in politics (sadly it looks like Abbot could get up in the election by this recogning, BTW if this happens and i disapear its because i have killed myself in dispare at what this country is going to turn into under a religious LOON)

don't fear, revolution is near, and jesus is the ultimate revolutionary. but don't tell sandy...shhhh...

if one were to listen to sandy, one would think that jesus was about politics, greed, and rules. that he was a pharisee! but the only rule jesus advocates is love. and all of us smart people know...that love triumphs in the end. so whatever it takes to bring about that end is fine with me.

    BRING IT ON BIOTCH!

"When Jesus came with explanations, he said: "I have brought you wisdom, so that I may explain something to you about what you have been differing over. So heed God and obey me! God is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him. This is a Straight Road."

    You are correct.

I think the first four are isomorphic & cyclic repeats in human history, and therefor would not define the 2000's as such. However internet and global warming are excellent choices.

    Let me add: Cognitive Science

Obviously, their relation can not be categorized same as the relation between land and water, they are more closely related. No doubt of that.

However, weather is daily, or weekly changeable phenomenon. It's like the daily news for our civilization. Climate, on the other hand, plays long term game -thousands of years-: comprehensive chemical and geographic balances provide an environmental atmospheric regime. Species are pushed to change their environment, eating habits, and sometimes even go extinct because of the climate change, this is categorically different than their seasonal adaptations.

For this, weather and climate are considered as two different things.

    The validation of cyncism.
The entrenched media powers, encountering and defeating a challenge from a divided group of citizen journalists who attempted to spread their word through the internet.
Censorship and banning of organizations with differing viewpoints will become more common.
Goverments will increase their hold on their populations.
Pop culture will become more idiotic (if such a thing were possible)
Students will grow up commercialised and innundated, apathetic to the risks posed by corporate interests. A situation of "looking out for no. 1" will ensure.

By the same token, social work and awareness in one owns country is likely to increase. (not really basing that on anything, just a gut feeling)
But interest in international affairs is likely to be dwindling.

what? When did that happen? Considering how many fat chick threads are at this site, I don't think the naked human body is near as accepted as you may think
