Hi I am new to this community.

I was watching Eragon just sometime ago. But I find the wings of Saphira a bit odd and strange.

Scales are heavier than hair so My question is.

Is it possible to have hair that is flat but wide sorta like this?

I know it's not plausible to turn into feathers with a shaft with filament.etc

However can it be turned into a feather or flight hair that functions like one except it looks like a flattened porcupine quill.

I know the Rhino's horn is B-keratin.. but the antlers of a deer I thought it was bone?

So can I say that maybe you can can hairs like what I said since the porcupine has done it already except it's round in cross section instead of flat.

But still Saphira's wings look pretty heavy as compared to a bird's wing.

Yeah, the core is bone, and the core is what's on that wall - I had a brain glitch, from the fact that they shed (and sleep deprivation).

Sorry about that, thanks for the patience.

Ok anyone else got something to say... So can I assume that flat hairs can be used as flight apparatus if they evolve in a mammal?

Are you asking if it's possible that dragon like creatures can fly?

Not exactly I am just using Saphira as an example becos her wings in the movie are not feathery but scale/feather like things... which probably weight a lot.

So I am not convinced but as a creature designer. I was thinking of design a creature which is a mammal but the hairs are feather-like but not exactly feather like, it's just a thick wide hair.
