I must say, I'm quite pleased with Amanda Tapping's new series.
After a bit of a shaky start, It is blossoming into a good series, with great story arcs, etc.

However, it does have some plot holes and issues sometimes(e.g. What happened to Ashley?/The five?) , But I'm hoping they continue to improve. There is a huge difference between season 2 and 1, but not so much that we think it's a new show.

Really though, I've always compared (perhaps unfairly), this show to stargate universe. Even though they both have very different contexts, and histories.. I have to say, that Sanctuary in terms of pacing and thrills, is farther ahead than Stargate Universe.

I'm hoping SGU picks it up as its second season starts, because it's competition (Sanctuary is on the same night), is looking pretty good. In both cases, I think the premise is sound, but one is just more developed than the other.

Does anyone else follow Dr. Magnus ?

I am not really a fan of it. It seems like its a random "monster of the week" show, but none of the monsters have been all that interesting in and of themselves to me. The character of Magnus is somewhat two dimensional, despite Amanda Tapping being a reasonably good actress. The death of Ashley was the one time they let her show some emotion, and then it was (understandably under that story line) over the top.

They seemed to have killed off the invisible girl simply because they found another dark haired actress to take a different role (and also play Will's future love interest). The new dark haired girl is the typical female picaro--former criminal with a heart of gold that she herself is only just discovering because of the noble people she finds herself working with--that I have seen a dozen times before.

They've had a while, but lost me. After a season or so, I should care about some of the characters, and I just didn't. I could live with unengaging characters if the plot weren't so directionless. (They had a big bad enemy for an handful of episodes, and then they destroyed it...and queue the monster of the week!) Not since Earth:Final Conflict have I wanted to like a show so much, and yet been so little interested in it. If it gets good in later seasons, I'll download it. To me, at least, it's strength is that I still have a certain affection for Amanda Tapping, and there is not much "better" Scifi on TV (I eagerly anticipate teh return of Doctor Who).

So they went the other direction from stargate? More deaths of characters, instead of the same guys ?

Anywho, yeah, good sci-fi is hard to find nowadays.

I watched the first few episodes and thought it was boring. So it gets better? Maybe I should give it another go.

Boring not enough action ? Or Boring not enough plot ?
I think it's a bit formulaic now, but It was too long winded in season one.

Should put this in the "things that suck" thread! I really do not care much for this series for many reasons, plot, acting and special effects.

It is the entire show that isn't that Good. The scripts aren't that great , which SGU was much better scripting and special effects. She can't use her abilities to make a good show out of a piece of crap no matter how good she is. The special effects aren't that believable either. But the scripts are what really kill it.
