I see.. I object to the stupid part though. I never called them stupid, just not that intelligent in that particular way. Intelligence has a lot of different aspects. A bigot may have superior intelligence in other areas.
Yup. But a professional wouldn't word it quite as strongly as that. Or with the negative connotations. We ALL have false beliefs about ourselves. Nobody (no thing!) is perfect. My issue is that it is illogical to say another is racist for prefering one sort of people and then to go on to say that one prefers one sort of people but that isn't racist. This is not a conversation about perfection but it may be about a human tendancy towards 'perfectionism' to a certain extent. This might be an issue of control in a world, or universe even, in which there doesn't appear any...
There really is no difference between saying "I prefer black people" and "I prefer white people" in that context, so that person must have had a double standard.
Doesn't everyone have double standards (to an extent - [Ooh I like that phrase!])? I can get away with X because I know my reasons for doing it, and, on this occasion, they are sufficient excuse. You shouldn't do it at all because I don't know what your reasons are. And it doesn't matter how much you try to justify it, what you're doing is wrong. Simple. Edit: another "help" for double standards is that my reasons are known to me before I do it. Your reasons are known (to me) only, if at all, after the event, so it comes across as attempts at justification rather than valid reasons.
Funny how often you see that though isn't it? So... A black person who hates white people is a racist. A white person who hates white people is a racist. A white person who hates black people is just expressing a preference. I've used the word 'hates' here emotively of course. That's how it works. I've seen it over and over again.....
