I remember one time I had started working at an insurance company and a couple of the women in the department were back in the files with me and being friendly. And it's been fourteen years so I can't recall the conversation exactly, but one of them tried to be provocative, so I called her bluff, and that night she came over to see if I could prove whatever point I'd made and we fucked for six hours. The trick, as far as I understand it, is this weird balance between nice, scoundrel, natural, calculated, and oblivious. And above all, it requires trust. And as the obligation and need is shared between the partners, one should not expect such a formula to bring success every time. To the other, if you go into it actually believing you have no chance except to embarrass the hell out of yourself, generally speaking, you'll find a positive experience. Even if it's simply, "Well, at least I didn't embarrass the hell out of myself."

I read this fascinating topic on Yahoo, it was a guy asking how not to get to attached to a girl he liked or was dating because he only goes after very particular women (and so gets attached to easily). The conclusion was pretty astounding. They agreed that there is NO way to prevent someone from seeking an attachment if that's who they are, furthermore a girl went on to say the following: "Actually I did do the same thing you did to avoid attachment, I got with a guy that I really liked but tried not to get too attached..... and it does work. Because after awhile of you of not opening yourself up and you hardening your heart you begin to not like that person anymore. Then you have to figure out a way to break up with the person and it's not a cool situation to be in. On either side." Those words are totally true, I've experienced them recently. I didn't open up to this girl and be honest, but instead tried avoiding the situation. The advice these people decided on was: "If you really like her go for it, she might be something you'd be missing out on otherwise, you never know. Like everyone else said its a risk you have to take." Which is brilliant again. They're saying you NEED to take that risk if you want an attachment, otherwise you'll just end up bitter and try breaking things off.
