Could be true in absolute numbers and also because more kids ride bicycles than motorcycles and they skew the statistics... Not to mention you don't need a licence to ride a bicycle so any moro9n can do it and hurt themselves... Also they are used for extreme sports, but I already made my points....
Helmets in cars would save more lives than helmets on bikers. There is no danger to others in the car, not only because of seat belts etc, but because skulls are more dangerous than helmets (smaller and harder). If you ride like that, wear a helmet. You'll be less stoopid.
why you think more people aren't getting hurt on bicycles?... about 2 months ago I had to scoop some young lady out of the road who cracked up on her bike crossing a railroad track.
ok...wear a helmet in your house if it makes you feel better Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
actually most deadly accidents with bicycles involve helmets and occur away from the bicycle. It's children choking to death getting hung up by their helmets when they play climbing thingies on playgrounds and such.
Helmets are worn by many professional drivers and racers which have saved their lives many times. Just two weks ago a piece of debris hit a formula one driver, Masa i believe, and without his helmet on he would have died! So never say that helmets are unsafe for that only shows your ignorance about them.
ok so they should only be used by professional then Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Working in Trauma for a number of years I can offer this observation, a helmet used while driving a race car is very helpful; a helmet used while riding a motorcycle at low speeds if very helpful; a helmet riding a motorcycle at 50 - 60 mph is not helpful. Seen many dead bikers come thru and its not the head trauma that kills them. I also ride a Harley lowrider and I alsway wear a helmet.
The problem with more stringent driving tests is that anyone can drive or ride perfectly well for the 60 mins or so of the test - then behave like a complete arsehole for the rest of the time - it solves nothing. I ride a motorbike everyday, and I wont even drive half a mile without full leathers, body armour, boots, gloves, and a Snell rated helmet. The helmet is the only legal requirement but regardless of the law I wouldnt be without it. Avoid secondhand helmets - helmets tend to mould to your head shape after a while - so a used one will be fitted to someone elses head not your own - also once a helmet has been crashed, or even dropped on the ground from more than about 2 feet, its dead and useless - so dont buy a helmet with an unknown history. If you dont want to spend a lot of money check out KBC or HJC - you can get a top-rated helmet from them for under $200 if you shop around so they arent expensive. I have a Craft RX6 which was prett expensive ( http://www.racevisors.co.uk/images/products/350-rx6-chrome_1199377644.jpg) , but also keep a KBC Force RR "Top Gun" as a back-up - I highly recommend it - get them here for $160 : http://www.helmetoutletusa.com/inde...0&Cat=Helmets&Name=Force RR Top Gun&Manuf=KBC
Wearing a helmet is kinda like insurance ... you will only miss it when you haven't got it! Or in your case wearing it!
