It's officially released. My base is deploying people to Iraq. I'm not going, about which I have mixed feelings. I don't want to make my first TDY war in the desert with possible horrible death from VX gas, but I might not get another chance to be in a warzone(among other things, no taxes!)

why do you want to be in a warzone anyway???

I think it is a little rude to say things like that.
Maybe because you are on the US side, your changes of dying or friends dying aren't that big.

But war with US does mean a lot of innocent people, iraq' soldiers will die.

I don't want to start a discussion about yes/no war with Iraq, but I had to say it is not good to talk about war as something fun.

But that's the main problem of Bush-america I guess, war seems fun from that side of the ocean.

Yes, those guys that fire weapons in my direction, are good guys.

It's not fun. And that last comment was sorta snotty of you.

Gifted has his own reasons, he doesnt have to tell you why. Maybe he's writing a book about war? Yes? Or experience? Whatever reason, its probably a good one.

those guys fire weapons in your direction to defend themselfs, they won't start the war.

You must realise that for me here in Europe, it seems like you think it is fun.
US soldiers don't die, US will fight Iraq anyway, if they find weapons or not, which gives the idea you just want war.
Saying that you want to go to a warzone does increase my feeling about that.

and about not sharing why he wants to go.... why does he post it then? I think the aim of posting is getting reactions.

The purpose of my post was only remind all american people that you should watch out with these kind of slogans, since it only raises hate against you.

I really dislike US war-policies, and I ain't going to keep them for myself.

i dont think he announced his possible deployment to start a debate about war etc

Gifted, i wish you the best of luck if you go. Do what you need to do to stay alive, always remember to watch out for the people who don't look dangerous, stay aware of your surroundings and keep your head together.

    Cheers

    Dear all,

I couldn't help noticing this discussion. It seems like a very typical discussion between Europeans who are critical about the US and US citizens who say the Europeans are moaning about nothing. BUT...I would like to point out that there is still no DEFINITIVE proof of weapons of mass distruction in Iraq. The UN weapon inspectors haven't found anything, and the only orginastion (or country) that I think is permitted to start a war is the UN and so long as they don't see a reason to start a war, I believe the road of diplomacy is still open. IF America starts a war before that timel, the war will only be another episode in the vendetta between the Bush family and Saddam Hussein.

    Greetings
    Swiert from :m: country

Not all of us are like that. tho i do share your sympaties about going to war. I'm a pacifist in the truest sense of the word, i think ALL war is bad, from BOTH sides. THe only problem is that it seems like some people don't respond to anything except death. Therein lies the problem. For me anyway, on one hand, i truely believe that NO WAR is good, but how far do you let someone go?

But i do agree with what sadaam said, bush can seem kinda bloodthirsty at times

  11. What makes them bad guys then? What makes you better?

No one goes to war planning on "writing a book." Also, Gifted brought the damned topic up, he ought to explain his motives!

My point was that if I was being shot at, then Im going to shoot back. I wont start a fight, but I will finish it.

Sidenote: I dont agree with the war at all.

Life is such a wonderful thing. The blue skies, the tranquility of a forest, the awesome feeling when watching the waves padding the shore. The scent of a freshly ironed shirt, the sensuous touch. The warmth of an embrace, the tenderness of a soft kiss.

If you don’t come back, no one will remember but the things in life that you gave away.

And you want to go to Iraq?

Reading this forum I come to realize the complexity of many issues. I get to learn about what’s goingon and the people behind many intelligent contributions, I like it.

But Gifted doesn’t want to analyze or discuss it, he is reaching sky-high. Good luck.

Warning: This isn't a response to anyone in particular, but Europeans seem to have lost their fighting spirit. I think this is probably from experiencing the horrors of two world wars first hand, and having such battles fought on your national soil--you realize that war is horrible in a way that Americans who've not fought a loosing or stalemated war on our soil for over a 100 years can not comprehend.

But that said, there are still just and neccessary reasons to fight a war. No one deserves to live under virtual dictatorship, no matter how benign it claims to be. If we find weapons in Iraq, all good and well.... if not, Saddam is still a dictator with a long history of abuses of power on his own people and those in other nations. He's not the only one on the list... but he IS the top-ranked and should be attacked on that basis alone.

I think you have a really good point there: England fits to that theory, they are into war, and haven't had a war on own soil for many years.

Though, your statement seems to blame Europe that it has lost some fighting spirit. (If you didn't mean it like that, forget about the following part)
I think we should see it as a sort of experience, and a learning-thing. We know about the horrors, and know we can not do that to others without a very-very-very good reason.

On the other hand, US had Vietnam, maybe not own soil, but great losses....

Hmmm, I still have the opinion that US isn't afraid of war because they can be sure they won't loose many lives.
And I think they aren't aware of the horrors they do to the "enemy". Maybe they should try to think of them more.

Is true, I wasn't very clear about things. I don't agree with all of Bush's policies, I'll be doing my part in the next election. I thought I indicated that I'd rather not go to war.

Oil is the reason our people(I myself haven't been deployed yet, been busy loading cargo planes)are going, and that's no reason at all, with all the trouble it's been giving the world.

As I said, I've been busy, but I've been thrilled with the responses I've got. Seeing how other people see things helps me form my opinions.

Rather than wear a charcoal suit on a 150 degree flightline, i'd rather play paintball. Did I mention I'm not really good with words yet?
