the smiley face is to let you know that there is no malicious intent to my replies. Everything I do and say is for a purpose, it does in fact mean something.. the point of this whole thread is the Disrespect shown to an entire country of Americans! It does get old being an American and people who do not know you , will still group you all together. How many times will we hear about Hiroshima, Nagasaki, WW2, Supporting the Israelis, ETC........ we must appologise.. why is it only Americans must appologise"? well, when the disrespect is returned... Its odd how people Squeal...isn't it? perhaps you did miss my gist... I know many haven't. I achieved what I wanted also.. but, enough of it now, Debate.... and Peace* to ya..

The aborigines statement was a completely different topic. I was making the point that what america has done in its past other countries have to.

    grazzhoppa:

<i>For all the people that focus their energy on America and it's people: You cannot generalize what the American people think...take the city of New York. You walk a few blocks and the people change, their views change, even their culture (the way they live) will change. It happens from state to state, suburb to suburb, coast to coast.</i>

Of course. For my own part, I am criticising US foreign policy regarding Iraq. That in no way reflects on the views of the average American, except insofar as they support the policies of the government.

<i>Would YOUR country's people, honestly, revolt against the government if it was looking out for you, yet doing something other cultures consider "bad?"</i>

Perhaps, perhaps not. In a democracy, you express your opinion by voting. Revolt is not necessary.

    slim:

<i>well, I'm agreeing with counclercoffee about the America Bashers and I also agree with the statement that they bash Americans because of Geography mostly.</i>

No. I think they bash Americans because they see the American people as partially responsible for the actions of their elected government. And so they are.

<i>Australian citizens would be meatloaf if they needed to protect themselves, simply because they didn't have enough Balls to keep their guns from being taken away by BIG BROTHER...</i>

You're generalising. How many Australians do you know?

<i>I myself do not knock other peoples countries...</i>

    You mean, like Australia?

    And what about this:

<i>I have met some pleasant people from other countries, however, most of them are female. apparently males were dropped on their heads when born.. Rudeness seems locked hand in hand with stupidity!</i>

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning!

James R.. you are a little late dude... those statements, as I said before, drag out people with thoughts like yours.. out of the wookwork, so to speak! you generalize also..which is what this thread is about. thanks for exposing your thoughts..

Felix, I can see how that statement can look racist. But trust me, its not. They are two completely different statements directed at one person. Read that part of the thread again and youll understand.

I've got it now CounselerCoffee, I was just pointing out the source of my confusion.

I've been doing a lot of skimming while riding my soapbox today.

    please forgive me.

some more corners to round off

James R: --Perhaps, perhaps not. In a democracy, you express your opinion by voting. Revolt is not necessary.---

first, The U.S. is not a democracy. second, revolt IS necessary if the government (elected or not, representative or not) oversteps its bounds eggregiously. but then, both that fact and the ideas behind a democracy imply that the people are educated and active in their self-government. a very big pre-requisite.

otherwise, i like what you say.

slim: ---don't mean to pick on you, man, but I feel a bit differently about our country than you do. I'm not so proud. I'm definitely not patriotic. I don't believe in nations. though you do have a point. if someone starts knocking Americans, my first urge is often to scrutinize the stereotypical faults of their own land. while i may intend to bring about some personal introspection in this person (i.e. they say "Well, not all of us are like that." and I say, "Well, neither are americans!!") that rarely happens. it just turns into a bash fest. I think you'd do best to go about defending America in a different way, rather than bashing back.

All that said, to those people who think America is great, I've got news for them.... and it's not bashing..... we're one of many. our freedoms come with responsibility.... our government isn't taking enough.

But wait! We are heading the international community at rooting out terrorism!!! We are leading the world in human rights!!!

i chuckle in your face. It should read, we are bullying the international community into accepting our demands!!! We are leading the world in hypocrisy and corporate corruption!!!

apart from that, yeah, things are pretty damn good.

I just wish we'd all face our problems, and facing them work together.

    Ah, what beautiful pipe dreams.....

the reason ppl are still squealing about it is cuz its still being perpetuated... and its hard not to bring history into context.. about how stuff by the US Govt is being repeated in cycles... i'll shuttup the day the US foreign policy takes a hard look at their actions... you simply can't just rip a country apart on the other side of the globe and not expect any sorta repercussions... im not mad at the average american.. just mad at americans who think what the US govt is doing is right... and all the political dogs in office too..

Anybody who thinks the American Government is doing right, must view war like an Entertaining Monday Night Football Game, waiting impatiently for it to start! Real people die... I lived through the Cold war, Many Wars to be exact, always on edge, in order to have a normal life, have Children to worry about, I had to sorta Mute the idea that the world may not last long enough for them to grow old, and just do it. go through the motions and hope Peace would take hold, and last. It seems its always just over the next hill, but then, so is War! Complete B/S.. I hate being Catagorized even worse.. yet, we all bleed the same.. when the berlin wall fell, and the Soviet Union broke up, I felt Relief, and a high hope for World Peace, then, here we go again! Always another Trouble spot. I'm sick of the Palestinian/Israeli Issue. I think We are doing Wrong with Cuba, and North Korea. I wish I could make policy, like many other Americans wish Also.. War and the threat of it, has set mankind back TOO many years! its past time for Efforts to End it forever.

    Peace* to Ya..

The US is doing some trade with Cuba (mostly agriculural, I think), but not much, true. Still, Cuba is free to trade with everyone else in the world, and does. How is the US at fault for Cuba's condition? Afterall, the naval blockade was 40 years ago and we're just one more trading partner than it already has.

ok. do some of you people(you peace-niks) realize that the muslim (extremists) actually don't like us and don't want to be our friends? they would rather see us dead. they want to convert the entire world over to their way of thinking/religion and if we don't agree to convert to their religion, they will just shoot us. so, think about that next time you say "No War in Iraq". if you like Iraq so much, feel free to go over for an extended vacation. permanently. let's see how much you'll cherish the good ol' USA after that..

    Pumpkins

    You mean like Timothy McVeigh?

You're talking about a minority, just a few nutbags. I could say in response that all Americans are war-nuts and want to nuke the entire Middle East. It's not true of course, but it amounts to the same thing.

Do you mean Iraq or Saddam Hussein? They are not the same thing. Saddam is a total friggin nutter. Iraq is just a country full of normal people, same as you and your parents and your neighbours.

don't kid yourself...there are more than just a "few nutbags" we are talking about. remember the first few "nutbags" in the Nazi movement? nutbags have a way about them..

** you could say that, but, i doubt that you'd really believe it. most Americans are in favor of war only if our liberty is being threatend in any way, shape or form. walnuts and peanuts are far better, btw...

    ***

*** how do you figure, i'm not really following the logic here.. do you mean one is synonymous with the other? is that it? if so, then..yeah. oh, wait...i reread what you wrote.

    *coughcough*
