Are there any Robert Jordan fans out there, besides me, or has he succeeded in angering everybody away? I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, which will be out in November.
Why would people be disappearing? They're not my favourite books, but I like them. I met Robert Jordan once. I didn't particularly like him. But I enjoy his books.
i am reading them at the moment (again) im up to the fires of heaven i wish he would bloody hurry up and finish them before he bloody dies or something
My friend reads his books (i forget which cycle) and he urges me to do so..i keep telling him no though Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Oh, no! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I just checked over on amazon and see that the release date for his 10th book in the series slipped from November to January, 2003. This can't be HIS fault because they don't announce a release date until the author places the book in the hands of the editor.
I just checked on Amazon -- the revised, revised release date is January 7th. Already it has moved up to number 8 on Amazon's best seller list!
*drools in anticipation* Its my favorite series in the world! I actually belong to an email discussion list about it. We are all going crazy with the wait! Some of those lucky British people already have the next book and are bragging. GRRRRRRRRR
Neville - you're in for a treat! Jordan is the best fantasy writer aside from Tolkien. He began this series after about 15 years of writing lesser stuff, so it is the output of a mature writer. This is the 10th book in the TWOT (The Wheel of Time) series and each one is about 650 pages long so you've got 6500 pages of reading pleasure awaiting you.
They arent silly like the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy or the discworld novels are they? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

No, the TWOT series is serious stuff -- much more so than Tolkien's Middle Earth books. Asguard -- are you speaking of David Eddings? I'm not sure I've ever read him -- what's he best known for? Later note: I just checked him out on Amazon -- I'm surprised that I'm not familiar with him. I'll buy book one of the Belgariad series today and check it out.
Personally I prefer George R R Martin to Jordan, but I do like Jordan a lot anyway. Eddings was for when I was fourteen. Rumour has it (according to a bookstore owner I was talking to recently) That Jordan is at fault for the slow releases. He's an alcoholic and goes through periods of binge drinking and writes while he's drying out... or vice versa. *edit* No, I take that back. I didn't mind the "Elenium" series by eddings. Better than his earlier stuff.
Squid Vicious The series by Geroge Martin, A Song Of Ice And Fire, is the best series of that type I have read. The world is well made, as are the characters.
It's HERE -- "The Crossroads of Twilight" was released today!! It's now standing at #1 on the Amazon.com bestsellers list.
I could read them all, but that would require me to spend at least two years away from all other book because, as anyone knows, those books are big and bountiful.
Well, I just finished reading book 1 of David Eddings Belgariad series -- it's not bad. I'll definitely finish the series. Eddings understands what fantasy is all about. BUT, the new TWOT book (Crossroads of Twilight) arrived just as I finished up and I started it, and I can tell you (IMO) Jordan is much the superior writer. Actually, it's not so much that he's mechanically better at WRITING, it's that he is more MATURE in his writing. Also, with his military background, he is excellent at portraying battle tactics and battle scenes and has a thorough understand of hierarchical structures and is really good at giving us the thoughts of people in various points in a hierarchy.
try the battle in belgarath of corse as he says when your above it, with constant contact to all your men, and an ear in the enermys comand tent its not hard to winPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
