"How can I be a shame to a community I'm not part of?"

Considering you've managed to convince you're little imp parade I'm a pagan somehow, how can you then claim I'm a shame to a community you don't even see me as a part of?

"insult me as a shame to something I am."

How's this: "You are a shame to donkeys." See the problem is that you keep looking for insults and all I'm offering is observation.

"I'm not manufacturing editorial cartoons about you"

That's because you can only write novels. When you go off on your little slanderous hissy fits, you really go off. You couldn't condense a point into a single sentence and a picture. I have practice writing short stories and little quips. I've written cartoons before just for the hell of it. That sort of thing just isn't your style.

"I'm quite enjoying the spectacle you're putting on at present."

I'm glad you're amused.

The writer ... speaks?!

You still don't get it, do you?
Cartoons? Good, then at least you knew what you were doing beforehand. And if there's one thing I've learned at Sciforums, it's that single-sentence points are lost on posters such as yourself. It's amazing how often you absolutely miss those points. If you paid attention to what was actually happening around here, then you'd understand the problem of condensing one's point. Heck, if you understood human diversity, the problem of condensed information should be inherently apparent.
You still don't get it, do you?
Don't complain about the posts if you're not reading them. By the way, Ben, just to remind you, the word you're looking for is libel, or, in this case, libelous. You write short stories, you say? What, your interpretation of The Little Engine That Could? Come on, I'd think a writer would know the difference between libel and slander.
How do you know what the posts say if you stop reading them? Really, Ben, you should at least have an idea of what you're talking about. As a writer, I'm sure you well know the difference between reacting to a sentence and reacting to a complete written body.

And, frankly, you must be an actor, too, since you're pretending to be a writer with apparent reading comprehension difficulties. Seriously, if it's dyslexia or some other reading disorder, just admit to it, and I'll lay off.

Does my use of the word "slander" confuse you?

"What, your interpretation of The Little Engine That Could?"

That's "what is..."

What kind of writer are you that can't write a proper sentence? Or are you just in a hurry is write? Or are you asking if I write about the Little Engine That Could? How much more slanderous bullshit can you muster? You've seen my writing. Anyone who wants to can see my writing.

"I'd think a writer would know the difference between libel and slander."

When you read my posts, think of me as talking to you. If I were writing a document I'd use the term libel. But since I'm in time-shifted verbal debate I use the term slander. It has nothing to do with knowing the difference between the two. It's just a matter of how I view these discussions.

"As a writer, I'm sure you well know the difference between reacting to a sentence and reacting to a complete written body."

As a whole you're full of shit. Though that pile of shit is made up of many bits of slander. Or if that confuses you: that pile of shit is made of of many bits of libel.

Tiassa, where on earth did you get that cartoon? It looks like gay anime! I had no idea such a genre existed!

However, I would not insult Tony so.

Kalvin, I would rather not know about the practices of whatever wierd sexual circles you frequent.

Nor would I automatically ascribe such behavior to Tiassa.

(BTW, Tiassa, I will not be your imp....unless you send pictures

You'll have to ask Razz, wherever he may be these days, where the image came from. In the meantime, this is the thread in which it first appeared ... you'll notice that KalvinB actually took it well. There's that much to be said on his behalf. I wonder if he's been calculating this the whole time? Probably not. He can't necessarily remember what he wrote last week ....

I had almost forgotten about that thread entirely ... I rembered it as soon as I saw the cartoon, but I couldn't remember who T1's new love was. It took about two seconds to find; I just searched for Porfiry's post in that one.

thanx,
Tiassa

No not really. If it's not posted at my web-site I probably don't remember writing it cause if it's not at my site, it's probably not worth remembering. That donkey picture is in my FTP directory because I find it hilarious and I doubt yours will be the only name to ever be on it.

"There's that much to be said on his behalf."

You mean I do have a sense of humor?

No, it amuses me, a writer who doesn't want to use the term that refers to writing. Now, if you were a comedian ....

What use would I possibly have for the word is in that question? Why and in what Universe could I possibly care about your interpretation of The Little Engine That Could?

As you frequently like to accuse, I "write novels". I'm sure that a short-story writer of your prowess would understand A) the sentence itself, and B) how it relates to the paragraph around it.

Should I write that one up to your reading difficulties or your jackass fetish?
Whatever. Take me to court for slander, I dare you. And when your lawyer says, "Try libel," tell him to tell the judge to pretend you're saying something important. Aside from that, I just figured a writer of your, uh, integrity, would want to cease making a general fool of himself--especially when that inherent foolishness is a direct result of your reading and writing (and debate) skills.

Furthermore, if you want me to pretend you're talking, your point about the construction of my sentence makes even less sense, and reveals you even further (as if you're not naked on this count) as merely seeking issues upon which to stake your furies.
And that view is quite removed from reality, as we can all see. Of course, we're all familiar with you insisting on reality being what you decide it should be. There's nothing new about that.
So, in reality, what you've told me is that the appearance of me as a pile of shit is, in fact, a mosaic of libelous bits. You're not telling us anything we didn't already know, Ben.

Oh ...
Shouldn't that be the arts of slander and libel? They are, after all, two entirely different arts.

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

And, before you tell me that you think they should be the same thing, let me point out that the difference 'twixt them is not limited to their media. They are wholly separate processes; you have to be much more careful to get away with libel. If you want to see artful libel, read Bob Larson's scathing attacks against free speech. (Larson is--at least, used to be--amazing at manipulating with ellipses; well, not really. But he could make exceptionally stupid people believe some amazingly stupid things about music, at least.) If you want to hear artful slander ... just pay attention to politics, especially on the conservative side of the aisle.

Two quite different art forms ....
Well, wasn't that right after you blew your chance to actually be right after that ugly PM incident? I actually took it on the one hand as a sign of intelligence that you chose not to respond directly to the cartoon when Razz posted it--in that context, it would seem you're capable of learning. To the other, though, we all noticed that you chimed in to address me directly with one of your compressed pointlessness bits. At least we knew what you were after, even then.

You're still chasing your quarry, Ben, and its nearly three months later. And, quite simply, it's starting to look like you're chasing your tail and merely running into the table now and again.

I was looking back at a couple of posts, Ben--of that little insult you slung at Nelson--the Pharisees were Jews, Ben. They were Jewish, not Christian.

I would libel you and say you're bright, but in addition to being untrue, the statement also has to be defamatory.

Actually KB, you get what you dish out. You're the one bringing this 'slander' onto yourself, so if you want to stop being 'slandered' try participating in the discussions here without resorting to personal insults and baseless propeganda, this is a scientific site after all.

I don't think that can be so. I toyed with the sarcasm as a sign of humor and thus intelligence. When it persisted along with an utter emptiness in thought and the dependence on bible quotes I have come to the same conclusion at every period of assessment: He uses sarcasm to hide his lack of substance.

I must agree with your assessment of KalvinB. As far back as I have knowledge I originated the Sir. Loone=Atheist theory. We played with that one for a while. I had alternate theories proposing that he was an escaped mental patient or just a slow person. Tony1 supports Loone so either you are right and Loone is not a "believer", thus negating your assessment of Tony or you are wrong about both.

Blah blah blah Tiassa.

"of that little insult you slung at Nelson--the Pharisees were Jews, Ben. They were Jewish, not Christian."

And of course you're too much of a stupid jackass to realize that has nothing to do with anything. He was acting like the Pharisee who walked away condemned. So he can't act like a pharisee unless he's Jewish? Are you now claiming he's a Jew? That would be ironic considering he claims Tony isn't Christian.

You're full of shit and you have absolutly nothing to say for yourself.

If you want me to start calling you a libelous jackass to make you feel better I will. Are you dumb as well? Can't talk? Considering how much of a blatent liar you are in writing it wouldn't surprise me if you lie as much verbally. So calling you a slanderous jackass isn't off the mark.

Xelios:
"You're the one bringing this 'slander' onto yourself"

Yeah it's all my fault for having an opinion. If I just didn't have an opinion, jackasses such as Tiassa couldn't be libelous and slanderous jackasses about what it is.

Those in glass houses should not throw stones. From the limited vocabulary and dependence on juvenile name-calling(jackass, imp, etc.) your domicile can be toppled with a pebble. Do you know words other than shit and libel? You claim that we have all slandered your name. Why would we need to do something you are more adept at than any of us?

Xev, Diogenes followed and sold people on The School of Cynics. He would perform irreprehensible acts in public to garner attention. They believed in a universe brought about by natural forces. They held that a return to nature is the key to happiness. They hated politics. They rejected traditional customs. They had an idea called the Universal Brotherhood. They were never as popular as the Stoics, but alas they were the closest thing we can find to a Greek (albeit Hellenistic) sect of what we could probably define as atheists or secular humanists (according to beliefnet

).

History is a great way of understanding current ideas fully. For instance early Christians were masochists. The problem grew to the point that a specific rule was universally accepted at monasteries banning that activity.

Writing Lessons With Ben

Quality writing, in something less than verse, summarized from KalvinB:

Quality Writing?

Not it's not you obnoxious twit,
You people are the most ignorant jackasses I've ever come across--
the king of Jackasses of course is too stupid to see,
But I tell you the truth.
I can judge you because I know the law--
you're the worst kind of Christian there is; A Pharisee.
Absolutly pathetic.
Stupid jackass.
Go smoke a bowl and be gone.

No you ignorant twit,
your a hypocritial jackass.
You are a hypocritial pious jackass who can't see what a wretched miserable individual you are.
That makes you an ignorant obnoxious jackass.
You're also an ignorant jackass.
Absolutly pathetic.

I'm doing nothing of the sort jackass.
I'm directing my observations at the jackass with the bong.
It doesn't matter what you believe.
YOU PERSONALLY ARE A JACKASS.
It doesn't matter what you believe.
Even if someone else believes what you do, you're the ONLY ONE I'm calling a jackass.
How stupid are you?
Somehow you've dellusioned yourself into thinking that if I call YOU a jackass
I'm calling everyone who believes what you do a jackass.
JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT....YOU ... ARE A JACKASS.

Stupid jackass.
Whatever community you're a part of, you are a shame to.
Is this really that hard to grasp?
You people are the biggest jackasses I've ever come across.
You can go on an on all you want but that doesn't change the simple observation that you are indeed jackasses.
You simply are jackasses.
It's OBSERVATION,
of course you're all too stupid,
you're all too stupid.

Course you're too much a slanderous jackass,
Jackass.

I should clarify that I grabbed the donkey--
too stupid to see
that stupid jackass package.
Yet another example of you being a jackass.

Obviously you're too much of a stupid jackass
I was pointing out that
YOU PERSONALLY are a jackass,
likewise just a pile of donkey doo.
I've been pointing our you're a jackass for weeks,
and you'll soon be 6 feet under.
I don't hate you.
I just think you're a jackass.
You really need to put down the pot and
stop being such a slanderous jackass.

I generally stop reading.
Stupid jackass.

How's this: "You are a shame to donkeys."
I have practice writing
I've written
I'm glad you're amused.

When you read my posts, think of me as talking to you.
If I were writing a document I'd use the term libel.
It has nothing to do with knowing the difference,
It's just a matter of how I view these discussions.

As a whole you're full of shit,
that pile of shit is made up of many bits of slander
that pile of shit is made of of many bits of libel.
You've got your imps well trained.

I find it hilarious and I doubt
I do have a sense of humor.
Blah blah blah

And of course you're too much of a stupid jackass to realize--
You're full of shit and you have absolutly nothing to say for yourself.
Are you dumb as well?
Can't talk?
So calling you a slanderous jackass isn't off the mark.

Yeah it's all my fault for having an opinion.
If I just didn't have an opinion, jackasses couldn't be libelous and slanderous jackasses--
You're a mindless little imp.

One is tempted to draw parallels with artists such as Marilyn Manson and Joel Peter-Wilkin and their highly public acts of defiance against society. Is rebellion a sign of brilliance? I think so. However, rebellion isn't proof of brilliance. As Manson himself says

"It doesn't take a rebel to sing along"

But that's off topic.

I would definitely call the Cynics athiests. While some believed in the Gods, most seemed to regard them either as nonexistent or irrelevent.

Hmm, I am not so sure I'd brand them all as masochists (no pun intended). While I'm sure that many of them enjoyed their hairshirts and public humiliation in the name of the God they submitted to, the voluntary acceptence and use of pain does not necessarily mean one is being masochistic.

Otherwise, what would we say of all those supermodels who eat very little and excersize very much? Pain can be a tool, a means of overcoming, and it can be a means to pleasure. One can exalt one's Will through the conquest of pain - i.e Giordano Bruno values his philosophy over avoiding the torture he was subjected to for not renouncing it, thus gaining power by his refusal to submit even to the threat of agonizing death.

One should also bear in mind that sexual masochism has more to do with humiliation and being stripped of power than it has to do with pain per se.
