Ships and the ocean (ocean as a metaphor, could include space) have represanted mystery and exploration. And the adventurers always are on a ship. These can be anything from fictional viking boats to star trek or star wars battleships. Which fictional ship has captured the hearts and minds of so many people, which one do people get most excited about. This is not a thread about teh most powerful scifi ship every created, it's about the one tht is the most influential. Ie, The starship Enterprise from Startrek, because practically every person knows that name.
The Jolly Roger? Captain Hooks ship. The Nautilus? Captain Nemo The Black Pearl? Captain Jack Sparrow.
The Ship of Fools The ship of fools is an allegory that has long been a fixture in Western literature and art. The allegory depicts a vessel populated by human inhabitants who are deranged, frivolous, or oblivious, passengers aboard a ship without a pilot, and seemingly ignorant of their own direction. This concept makes up the framework of the 15th century book Ship of Fools (1494) by Sebastian Brant, which served as the inspiration for Bosch's famous painting, Ship of Fools: a ship—an entire fleet at first—sets off from Basel to the paradise of fools. In literary and artistic compositions of the 15th and 16th centuries, the cultural motif of the ship of fools also served to parody the 'ark of salvation' Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Fools_(painting)
The most famous fictional ship is Noah's Ark. Then there's also the Argo, but that is a pretty distant second.
Captain Nemo's Nautilus offcourse but it has allready been said Nagelfar the ship made of death men's nails would be my second option The poseidon third
Titanic. I wouldnt vote for it, but ill add to the list Huck Finns raft Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria USS Enterprise (Star Trek) Whats the ship in Hell (or ferry)?
Clearly the Argo. Reason: it has been known to more people through a longer span of time. The story of Jason and the Argonauts existed long before Christian mythology and Noah's ark (which didn't even rate a name) -moreover, the ark was lifted from Gilgamesh, which arguably is as old and popular as the myth surrounding the Argo, but, again, the boat that Utnapishtim/Ziusudra used had no name.
Also, if someone PMs me or takes a moment to make a list of all suggestions after a few pages, I can create a poll for voting. This, of course, is ultimately up to fedr808 since these are his threads. We can do the same for both threads then let the participants show their opinions.
