I'm an american, early 20s, and have only actually lived in america for the past 4 years, before that it was Germany. Kinda nice to see this perspective, it's tough to find agreement amongst most (key word, "most") fellow average americans.

Any ad on TV for a disinfectant that you whipe all over a kid and his toys and any other surface of the house makes me grit my teeth. Kids have immune systems for a reason, let them develop so they don't become stereotypical pill-junkies popping antibiotics like M&Ms later in life.

I also can't stand any parent I see in a store that threatens to spank their kid and doesn't follow through, or better yet, gives their kid a "stern talking to", only to have the kid continue to act like a whiny little shit. This of course isn't typical to America, but I find it's much more common. It lets the child feel more entitled than they really are, and then I end up working with dipshits who complain whenever a group homework project or something isn't done THEIR way.

I also had the misfortune of camping with some guys who's idea of "manly camp cooking" was to throw a slab of dirty sandstone on the grill, and while using MY camping hatchet as a spatula, procedded to attempt to make pancakes. Yes, pancakes, they brought bowls and shit. I ate a bite of sand-gritty pancake, spit it on the ground, and me and the other guy pulled out some canned food, popped the top and cooked them in the coals. To this day I'm confused as hell about what people's definition of "manly" is in this country.

These are the same guys who have a shallow enough backbone to sing "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey no less than 11 time on the way to the campsite, and when I stop them on the 12th time to say "the only reason you like this song is because your White Sox sang it after winning the series a while back". They then went "yeah, I guess" and they all stopped suddenly, telling me that they didn't really like their song, they were just very culturally suggestable.

Maybe I'm a little testy about this because I grew up on a military base and grew up around examples of stronger, more practical people, but I can completely agree that our generation of americans is placid and lacks backbone and sometimes plain common sense (which sadly isn't so common anymore).

Oh, and one last thing, I was camping with a different group once, and since when have the Boy Scouts of America been using "fire water", their fancy term for a whole freakin bottle of lighter fluid?! SERIOUSLY?! Also, since when do Boy Scouts bring more food than gear (including raw ground beef that needs to be rolled and mixed with diced onions, turned into burgers topped with all the condiments, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, blah blah blah) for a SINGLE NIGHT outing? Seriously, they were more-than-jokingly disappointed when someone forgot the dijon mustard. And for my final thoughts on that outing that indicate the mettle of who I was camping with, I give you two words...

Looking at you, then me, it's fair to say that we got a hell of a lot smarter, too.

Mensfitness, along with myself, seems to disagree with you.

Clint is in some elite company(including Chuck Norris) in this article as well.

I bet you R. Lee Ermey (who is also on the list) would agree with Clint. And there is no way you can say that R.Lee Ermey isn't in a position to call others sissies.

I understand entirely. The culture in America has a tendency to be ignorantly protective of their children. Seriously, children would be a lot better off if they were spanked, even in public. Parents seriously need to discipline their children properly. If they aren't, they will end off as ignorant and spoiled children.

Ugh, I totally agree with this.

Keeping in mind, that I myself have not been alive for the 'good ol days' but from what my father and grandfather tell me, it just looks ridiculous how we as a society have become so paranoid.

I do electrical contracting, and for ever 3 office buildings I go to, at least one of them requires me to go through their own safety course. It is ridiculous.

Son, it is not the messenger, it is the message that counts. Deal with it...

I have a thread called Whiny-pussy generation, or something like it, it basicly states the same...

    "Everybody is a winner!"

    "No child left behind!"

    "No red colored grades!"

"Don't call them fat, they are BBWs!"

"Where is my cellphone, Xbox, ride, I can't live without them!!"

So the reason why you should care is, because LIFE (the real one) doesn't give a shit about how pampered you are, you gonna get screwed by it sooner or later, so better get ready...

Truer words have never been spoken.
Kinda like the Nationwide Insurance slogan: Life comes at you fast!

    The world owes you nothing.

And I must say ....doesn't it amaze you that there's soooooo many people who actually and truly think that the world owes them a living? I'm amazed by it every day ...and it's even more pronounced on sciforums!

Yep. I know a few bitter, resentful people that think the world owes them a favor.
Granted I'm fairly resentful at times too, but I'm well aware that the world owes me precisely dick. Nothing I've received over the past few years has been handed to me. I've busted my ass to earn all of it.
