If you can't afford microbraids, which you could get by befriending some of your fellow students that aspire to cosmetology, consider dreads. Nothing is cheaper than dreads, you may just need to invest in febreze since you won't be washing it anymore.

Yep, just get it done every few weeks, only costs a few quid and looks damn smart.

Then if you dye it white you'll look like the Goblin King from Labyrinth

My hair has grown out quite a bit and I'm to busy to get it cut. Now I just twist it up with a clip; it works well enough to keep it from getting in the way.

Or a few drams of tea tree oil.

We don't do drams, dear, we do drops. A dram brings up images of egyptians on camels for some reason, perhaps I have it misfiled.

Don't cut it in haste- Keep your options open. I'm usually businesslike (circa 1700s). But with shoulder-length hair, I can also go rocker, or liberty spikes when I want. Regulation short haircuts severely limit one's self-expression IMO.

I am just letting my hair grow long, but trim it on the sides...I advise you do the same thing.

    One requirement they have:
10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.

I mailed them my 2-foot plus waste-length mop some years back when I had it sheared off.
