    Is Religion a Virus?

It infects the mind of the Adult, then the Adult infects the Child.

    Is Atheism a virus?

It infects the mind of the Adult, then the Adult infects the Child.

    I mean..usually a virus is contraire to the status-quo...eh?

Absurd yet not surprising reaction from a theist. Atheism is simply the lack of theism.
Whether the majority or minority are infected says nothing of whether it's a virus.

    Interesting.

Were you not born an Atheist?

Or did you come out with a bible in your hand?

Actually I think I was born religious and people made me less religious as time went on.

It must be tough to live your life so intellectually blind...

"Atheism is the lack of theism"...interesting.

However more properly said "Atheism is the lack of deism".
    Everyone has a theosophy.

Now ask me "Are you a deist?" well...no.
However; was my theism more well thought out and constructed than your theism? Most likely.

Since my theism evolved over 3000 years of contiguous efforts by various scholars...whereas yours lasted maybe your lifetime long.

You not only make personal religious claims you can't support, you make claims about other people you can't possibly know.
Theism hasn't evolved. Some details may change but it's still absurd desperate cruel fantasy.
If you thought it out well, you wouldn't be spouting nonsense.
You are the blind leading the blind while being upset that the sighted will not follow you off the cliff.

Nope, it is collection of methods for human pschiological satiation.

Religion doesn't do this. A bunch of people get together and play, talk about life issues, support each other, etc. It's meeting human psychological needs. What is a virus are the unfortunate claims about objective reality that most religions make. There are omnipotent life forms whom will torture you, there are sourcerers whom will hex you, your consciousness will persist after your brain's processes have completely fallen to entropy, etc. That type of virus is called a Meme and it often preys upon people's fears and desires.

A virus corrupts information, or prevents information processing.

Can they... yep. People do it in "unofficial" groups. Nerd culture, hunting culture, sports culture, etc. often have strong correspondences to religion.

Will they... I don't know but I'll speculate a yes. Objective knowledge is dispelling more and more superstition and I suspect that will eventually motivate effective social leaders to embark upon religion without the fruits and nuts.

Yes thats the adults. But what of the children, are you saying they are simply within earshot.
Their poor little minds are enforce with religious BS as soon as they can walk.

    From post #9:

That is the part that children get indoctrinated with. That's not religion that's doing it... it's the parents infecting their children with the Meme.

There are very good reasons why there are distinctions between soft science and hard science

We must immediately admit that the structure of the cell will never be understood in the same way as that of water or glucose molecules. Not only will the exact structure of most macromolecules within the cell remain unsolved, but their relative locations within cells can only be vaguely known. It is thus not surprising that many chemists, after brief periods of enthusiasm for studying ‘life,’ silently return to the world of pure chemistry.”

'Religion' is a word covering a vast area of human experience, practice and ideas. Sometimes the virus metaphor might fit. Sometimes not.

Virus or bacterium? Some bacteria are beneficial.

And some viruses seem rather neutral.

One problem I have with this is that I think there is a form content blurring.

To use the metaphor of 'virus' implies that the process through which a belief is replicated is like that of a virus.

But if that is the case, then the content is not the issue, but the process. So vast numbers of beliefs would be 'spread' virus-like.

I have to say that your IP training sounds like another virus - you know, get the 'right' ideas in their brains.
