It is important to remember that this event is not representative of the Islamic religion in general. Fundamentalist Muslims in northern Nigeria have been trying to impose their medieval sharia on people who want nothing to do with it. When these Muslim fundamentalists don't get what they want, they riot and murder, their passions inflamed by messianic mullahs. This relatively innocuous beauty pageant is just an excuse for religious fundis to pillage and murder their Christian neighbors. In a civilised culture, you can have different opinions about things, and you don't stone people to death or get stoned to death. Can someone PLEASE explain why one of god's creations (in particular, a woman) is not allowed to be viewed in public? I should abstract a bit further the difference between barbarian scum and civilised people. The defining difference may be respect for others.
